Job Information

Dow Jones Reporter, Central & Eastern Europe in Warsaw, Poland

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a veteran journalist to work as its Central and Eastern Europe correspondent. We are looking for an accomplished candidate who can report and write ambitious stories on this critical region’s economy, geopolitics and people.

This is a job for a talented all-arounder who can cover topics ranging from economics to military affairs and geopolitics and the ability to both break news and to step back and write big thematic, analytical and narrative pieces.

You will be covering the front lines of escalating confrontation between the West and Russia as the world faces the prospect of a new, global Cold War. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has called into question the security of NATO’s eastern flank in ways not seen since the demise of the Soviet Union.

We are looking for a motivated correspondent capable of working independently, with little supervision, and also as part of the larger Journal team across Europe and around the world as we cover this important story.

You will:

Cultivate sources and break news, delivering scoops and analysis that separate your work from the pack. Your writing will be revelatory to both a general audience and those well-versed in the region’s politics.

Deliver ambitious enterprise stories that start conversations and set agendas. You are part of a team but it is your job to be the expert on your region, conceive of feature ideas and report them out.

Collaborate with colleagues in Moscow, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere while reporting on a range of topics, from economics to military affairs to shifting political alliances.

You have:

A track record of dominating a beat and producing scoops and enterprise ahead of the competition.

A demonstrated ability to tackle ambitious projects and find original approaches to coverage, and the motivation to work independently when needed.

Preferably, some language skills in Ukrainian, Russian or Polish.

The position will be based in Warsaw and reports to World Coverage Chief Gordon Fairclough.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work.
