Job Description:

Dow Jones and its Professional Information Business (PIB) is looking for a Design Director to join the technology team based in London. Like all our product and UX designers, your responsibility is to the user. You will empathize with and thoroughly understand the goals, desires and preferences of the target users. You’ll use this knowledge to inform concepts and innovative solutions across B2B products and projects. In this position you will be collaborating with and working alongside product managers, engineers, researchers and business stakeholders to define the user experience and design of our PIB digital products and tools. This is a player/coach role, leading a small but nimble team of UI and UX designers.

Responsible for signing off on every aspect of design and the user interface of Factiva, NewsPlus, Risk & Compliance, VentureSource and any new PIB related products.

Responsibilities and what you’ll do

  • Work within the in-house technology and product team to define interactive experiences within PIB and its network of digital products

  • Keep the team engaged, challenged and motivated by helping establish individual short and long term goals

  • Work closely with product managers, engineers and business stakeholders to implement and deliver final products

  • Further develop and help implement the PIB design language system

  • Rapidly produce designs and innovate within the fast-paced environment, whilst maintaining bigger picture design and brand consistency

  • Ensure a consistent user experience, aesthetic voice and high level of quality in every web or mobile product PIB designs

  • Evangelize best UI practices to other designers, engineers, and product managers

  • Work with our UX designers to observe, and analyze usability studies

  • Facilitate design communication across a multidisciplinary team throughout each phase of a project

  • Develop new approaches to complex design problems and convey these designs in the form of presentations, prototypes, and design specifications

  • Work closely with cross-functional staff and departments such as Sales, Innovation, Engineering, and Marketing to deliver against project goals

  • Prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment


  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Strong experience designing user-interfaces for content-rich websites and apps

  • Expert at designing and building products for mobile and desktop experiences

  • Passion for identifying and solving user problems

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly-dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders based in remote office locations including New York City, Hong Kong, and Princeton, New Jersey

  • Familiar with digital product design best practices and procedures

  • Experienced in human centered design and design thinking processes

  • Expert in user-experience design, information hierarchy, user-flow, and typography

  • Skilled with Sketch, InVision, Adobe CC and other design and prototyping tools

  • Solid understanding of current Web and App technologies including React and React Native

  • Comfortable in working on B2B products for information professionals
