Dow Jones Senior Generalist, People Partner in Tokyo, Japan

Job Description:

We are now seeking a high caliber human resources professional to join our Asia-Pacific team based in Tokyo, Japan. This position will contribute to the performance of Dow Jones’s business by handling HR operations and partnering with business managers to enable them to effectively lead, motivate and develop their teams. As a member of the global People team, this role fosters and supports a positive, employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, employee engagement and performance success.

Senior Generalist, People Partner, Japan

Reporting to Director, People Partner, this position will collaborate to:

  • Provide front line support to employees and managers at the Tokyo office covering all aspects of the employee life cycle. This includes answer all their inquiries, HR related administration, advising the employee on benefits, updating relevant HR systems and liaising with internal departments when applicable.

  • Work closely with leaders to implement People initiatives that support the needs of the business unit, as well as company-wide activities

  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are consistently and equitably applied, legal requirements are met, and that a positive employee relations climate is developed and maintained.

  • Recruitment with hiring managers and on-boarding of new starters.

  • Review and provide supporting documentation to Payroll team to process payroll and social insurances. Answer any related queries in the process.

  • Timely tracking and management of probationary periods, on-boarding and absence management such as parental/childcare leaves, sick leaves, voluntary leaves and off-boarding in accordance with Japanese statutory requirements.

  • Coach managers and employees through performance management and employee relations issues to ensure compliance of current Company and People policies while strengthening their skills and confidence among others.

  • Assist to develop and implement talent development initiatives for managers and employees.

  • Administer and manage relocation, company benefits and compensation policies in collaboration with the relevant global teams.

  • Participate in the creation and upholding of best practice human resource policies, practices and systems which help attract, retain and mobilize high quality employees, support business priorities and promote competitive advantage.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required

  • Previous experience in a similar position;

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Human Resources, or relevant field;

  • Strong knowledge of Japanese labor laws;

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in Japanese and English;

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and a strong attention to detail;

  • Knowledge of Workday HR system, Google Suites, MS Word and Excel;

  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude, team player
