We are now seeking a high caliber human resources professional to join our Asia-Pacific team based in Tokyo, Japan. This position will contribute to the performance of News Corp’s business by handling HR operations and partnering with business managers to enable them to effectively lead, motivate and develop their teams. As a member of the global People team, this role fosters and supports a positive, employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, employee engagement and performance success.

Human Resources Manager, Japan

Reporting to Director, IPS APAC and dotted line to HCJ HR

You Will:

  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are consistently and equitably applied, legal requirements are met, and that a positive employee relations climate is developed and maintained.

  • Provide front line support to all (DJ and HCJ) employees and managers at the Tokyo office covering all aspects of the employee life cycle. This includes HR related administration, advising the employee on benefits, updating relevant HR systems and liaising with internal departments when applicable.

  • Work closely with the global People team and local leaders to implement People initiatives that support the needs of the business unit, as well as company-wide activities.

  • Support local and global HR projects and initiatives (HR Transformation, employee survey, remuneration & benefit analysis, process simplification etc.).

  • Partner with employee relation advisors, and other investigation boards in supporting investigation of employee relation related cases, and respond to stakeholder queries through a combination of referring to internal experts, and/or interpreting both policies and changes to policy.

  • Research and analyze Japan regional policies and regulations, formulate and update the company's rules, and establish compliant and reasonable HR policies.

  • Supports and leads local HR projects like internal employee communication, data quality checking and compliance work, cultural and operational transformation at scale, design company policies and procedures, review and update our employment contracts and agreements.

  • Assist to develop and implement performance management talent development initiatives for managers and employees.

  • Support Finance in preparation and tracking of Headcount & Budget in relation to people costs.

  • Recruitment with hiring managers and on-boarding of new starters.

  • Process payroll and social insurances. Answer any related queries in the process. Payroll, labor-related Instructions to the Social Insurance and Labor Consultant Office. Social insurance/labor-related counter. Payroll Including Bank, Regulation revision, etc.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree;

  • Native Japanese and business-level fluency in English;

  • Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English

  • HR Operations experience in an international environment

  • Strong knowledge of Japanese labor laws and industry best practices;

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and a strong attention to numbers and detail;

  • Knowledge of Workday (HRIS system), Google Suites, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
