Job Information

Dow Jones Video Journalist, News and Current Features in SINGAPORE, Singapore

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video journalist to produce news videos and current features out of its Singapore hub. We are looking for a strong journalist with experience covering news ranging from natural disasters and global politics to markets and economics.

As part of an award-winning team that is constantly exploring ways to bring challenging stories to life and stand out in a fast-paced news cycle, in this role you will juggle many tasks under deadline and adjust production schedules according to news coverage needs in the APAC region.

Top candidates will be fast video editors and know how to use graphics and animation to enrich the international video team’s daily news coverage, along with longer-lead pieces and explainers.

Please note that this isn’t an entry-level position and it isn’t a position producing documentaries. Because this is a role focused on producing videos that are pegged to the news, you will need to show projects that you’ve completed in a few hours and stand out in the 24/7 information cycle as well as in-depth features that were finished on a tight production deadline.

You Will:

  • Research, script and edit on deadline with a focus on clear framing and story structure

  • Have expertise in the entire Adobe Suite with a main focus on Adobe Premiere and After Effects

  • Be able to script short news stories as well as timely features and in-depth explainers with an eye for visuals and storytelling narrative

  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed

  • Produce, shoot and edit, remotely, in the office and in the field

  • Pitch ideas that hit core WSJ topics with a concept for visual elements/scenes that will make the final video engaging to our viewers

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to publication while sticking to set deadlines

  • Be able to work late hours and weekends as part of a regular rotation and as news developments may require

  • Collaborate and coordinate with newsroom editors and reporters as well as the internal publishing team

You Have:

  • At least three years of experience working in a daily news environment

  • Experience editing and producing compelling business, tech, politics and general news videos under tight deadline constraints

  • Professional competency editing and designing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite

  • Knowledge of current events, U.S. politics, APAC news, economics, and a general nose for news

  • Expertise using multiple camera setups, including the Sony FS5 and FS7, Canon C100 and C300

  • Adept with studio and field lighting setups

You should submit a cover letter describing how you'd approach the job, a detailed resume and sample clips.

  • LI-JA1-WSJ
