Role

Dow Jones & Company is looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer to support our Cloud Services program. This role is responsible for the development of tools, orchestration and processes which automate the policies and processes of Dow Jones’ cloud infrastructures. Candidate will advocate software engineering best practices such as Test Driven Development, and Extreme Programming to teams executing Infrastructure development. Candidate will help in improving the automation framework around scalability, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.

In-depth knowledge of AWS is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Mentor a team of Cloud Engineers

  • Plan, direct, and oversee the development of tooling to automate processes.

  • Developed code must adhere to SDLC best practices, including documentation, unit and functional testing, and composability.

  • Leverage existing CI/CD pipelines, or develop new ones as appropriate, to ensure processes are automated to the greatest extent possible. Where manual interaction is required, ensure that inputs and outputs are integrated into automated processes.

  • Evaluate information gathering processes with a view toward streamlining and automating them in accordance with the above principles.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other managers to ensure developed code is accessible and easily adaptable to their business processes.

  • Champion a collaborative development approach which encourages and accepts contributions and emphasizes transparency.

  • Participate in after-hours and emergency support of systems and services to maintain internal service level objectives.

Skills & Experience

  • Advanced understanding and experience of AWS including VPC, ELB, IAM, KMS, EC2, Config, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, Lambda, and others.

  • Overall 4 years experience in Information Security with experience in cloud solutions (AWS).

  • 4-6 years development experience with Python, Ruby, or NodeJS.

  • Development and collaboration experience with the Gitflow workflow.

  • Solid experience with testing frameworks such as unittest, mock, and cucumber/gherkin.

  • Extensive Experience working with container and serverless technology.

  • Understanding of a risk-based security approach.

  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, and Compliance as Code.

  • Experience designing, developing, testing, evaluating and implementing automation solutions for compliance validation, secure continuous integration, and continuous deployment.

  • Experience with the development, deployment, and automation of security solutions in an enterprise cloud based environment.

  • Advanced understanding of information security principles and core technologies: CIA triad, encryption, identity, authN/authZ, SSO, Networking, web protocols, infrastructure hardening, security baselines, and privacy.
