Custom Research is a unified group focused on bespoke solutions for our clients. This involves unique research which is tailored and optimized for our customers’ specific needs.
The group is comprised of teams who:
Research and write high-quality Due Diligence reports on companies and/or individuals
Write targeted queries and hand select the most relevant news for My Company Today newsletters
Provide one-off reports where entities and/or individuals are screened against negative references in the news
Support WSJ Pro offerings via research and original writing on cybersecurity and other topics
The position sits within the Due Diligence subgroup, a global team based in Barcelona, Princeton and Singapore, which is responsible for researching/writing and reviewing/proofing of high-quality reports on companies and/or individuals using a combination of publically-available and proprietary sources.
The Manager, Due Diligence Research is responsible for managing a team of Research Editors in Princeton. The team is responsible for researching and writing on high-quality reports on companies and/or individuals using a combination of publically-available and proprietary sources across various countries, including the US. The Manager works closely with their peers and direct reports to ensure that our content and sources are kept up to date and that reports meet client requirements in terms of accuracy and timeliness. The Manager is also required to provide training, mentoring and leadership to other Research Editors in the wider Due Diligence research team when necessary, and ensure that targets and deadlines are met. The Manager reports to the Senior Manager, Due Diligence, Americas and plays a key role in the continuing market success of Due Diligence. The Manager may also be called on to assist other teams in Data Strategy with special projects from time to time, according to their individual skills and knowledge.
Lead, in a collaborative environment, a highly dedicated research team to achieve Dow Jones’s output/quality/timeliness targets. The Manager’s duties include recruitment, defining goals and developmental directions, performance management and identifying and implementing coaching needs for staff.
Allocate research responsibilities across the team of Research Editors in a fast-paced environment.
Ensure that all Due Diligence reports allocated to the team of Research Editors are completed on time and according to quality standards.
Implement continual training to ensure that the Research Editors produce reports that contain the most accurate, up-to-date and thorough information possible to meet client expectations.
Promote the Due Diligence research process internally and externally and support Due Diligence Sales Specialists in prospecting and selling the service.
Ensure that clients receive clear, responsive communication to queries relating to the Dow Jones research process and its content.
Previous experience in the field of Due Diligence desirable.
Previous experience in managing and motivating a research/editorial team desirable.
Ability to manage a team with a focus on quality- and quantity-metrics and finding the right balance between the two.
Ability to manage a team of researchers and to train/mentor them to greater success.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Strong organization and conceptual skills – ability to coordinate appropriate internal resources.
Knowledge of and interest in international affairs.
Positive outlook on change, self-motivated and flexible.
Ability to take ownership of issues.
Ability to adapt readily to changing customer expectations and allocate resources appropriately.
Ability to work as part of a multicultural team, to build and maintain good working relationships.
