Dow Jones Lead Data Engineer, Subscription Feeds in PRINCETON, New Jersey

Job Description:About the Team:The Experience team oversees the Product, User Experience and Technology functions across our business. They are responsible for shaping the way customers, readers and users engage with our brands and franchises. The Experience team works to provide a world-class experience in every aspect—visuals, tools, data, mobile, video, social and more. They work closely with our newsrooms and partners across Dow Jones to shape new products and drive innovation.About the Role:

We are seeking to hire a Lead Data Engineer for the Subscription Feeds area in the Enterprise Technology department. We are seeking a seasoned engineer with a strong technical background and experience to join our team that is responsible for the technology behind our Subscription Platform stack. The candidate needs to have strong technical skills to help drive development as well as specific fluency in a service-oriented architecture. The role will be hands-on and will have dual responsibility for the development of new product features and support of the application stacks. You will work closely with other software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to design and implement solutions that provide a high-quality customer experience.

You Will:

  • Architecture, design, and development of software applications

  • Develop and maintain documentation related to the subscription feeds platform, including technical specifications and architectural diagrams.

  • Demonstrates creativity, the ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions

  • Analyze source system data for the purpose of data mapping requirements; Profile existing data structures to thoroughly understand all data assets that exist in the platform and identify areas of improvement.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and issues related to the platform.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to the platform and provide guidance to other engineers on issue resolution.

  • Defines application development standards for designing, building and maintaining applications, application components, and common services including the recommended use of languages and tools

  • Partners effectively with product to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap

  • Able to identify areas of strategic technical debt and provide cost/benefit analysis for eliminating this debt and suggested timelines for how to prioritize it.

  • Application maintenance and support of software applications

  • Understands and practices agile software development and management

You Have:

  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in software development

  • Experience with AWS Services (EMR, S3, RDS, AirFlow, etc) in a complex large-scale environment

  • Programming experience in Spark using Python

  • Hands-on experience writing complex sql queries, extracting and importing large amounts of data

  • Ability to analyze source/transactional data to quickly understand relationships and identify issues related to models being created.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to create mappings between source and target systems.

  • Experience with integration of data from multiple sources

  • Knowledge of various data transformations and load techniques and frameworks

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience with Agile Development methodologies (SCRUM)

  • Experience with collaborating and working in a mixed-location environment

  • A self-starter that is able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team
