Job Description:

Dow Jones, a leader in the global media industry, seeks a VP, Diversity & Inclusion will work as a thought leader and project manager to identify, develop, and implement diversity and inclusion efforts throughout the lines of business and with key stakeholders, including the People function and the Talent Management team. Reporting to the SVP, Inclusion & People Management, the VP, Diversity Inclusion is a resonant leader who embodies the spirit of our culture by living and supporting our core values; curiosity, trust & humility.

This is a key strategic role in support of our overall D&I strategy in that it is the main driver for enabling inclusion and equity of outcomes in our talent management and workforce diversity strategies. The VP, Diversity and Inclusion will utilize best practices, robust data and analytics, and create strong partnerships with the business, to ensure that D&I is embedded in all aspects of leading and managing.

Position Summary

This role is established to drive the achievement of Dow Jones internal D&I goals, internal enterprise goals and the advancement of workforce representation. Two key measures of the incumbent’s efforts will be:

  • Business Unit action plans and results with D&I initiatives and workforce representation.

  • Increased capability among the HR, talent and business communities to identify and address D&I opportunities. This role requires a deep understanding of Dow Jones global structure and leaders, coupled with a good sense of contemporary talent and D&I strategies and approaches.

To be successful in the role the incumbent will possess analytical thinking and the ability to translate goals into operational plans and supporting initiatives.

The VP, Diversity & Inclusion will manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to design and create supporting procedures and processes is critical.

Responsibilities

  • Support the enterprise in achieving its D&I Goals relative to diverse talent recruitment, talent pipeline (internal and external), diversity representation, and inclusive culture.

  • Leverage data and analytics to both identify and diagnose areas of opportunity, and predict key levers to drive change and impact.

  • Partner closely with the People Team leadership to co-create programmatic approaches for building early stage diversity and inclusion strategies, including, but not limited to targeted learning and development programs, and outreach strategies.

  • Consult with and support the lines of business as they develop and implement D&I efforts to meet their business and talent objectives as well as their representation and D&I goals.

  • Consult with and manage internal employee groups and Regional D&I councils at DJ by providing structure, governance and KPIs linked to overall D&I goals.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders including Legal/Compliance (AAP/EEO matters), People Business partners, Procurement (Supplier Diversity), Real Estate/Facilities, and others, to ensure that departments throughout Dow Jones are aligned and resourced to achieve enterprise D&I (representation) goals.

  • Provide strategic direction on our Community Impact goals through corporate philanthropy with a focus on underserved communities

  • Develop sustainable processes with an ongoing focus on continuous improvement.

  • Overall D&I Strategy execution - Help define Dow Jones’ internal D&I efforts, particularly as they relate to customized approach with the lines of business.

  • Create a process for, then provide on-going support of Unit D&I strategic plans.

  • Influence internal stakeholders to understand the enterprise D&I strategy and translate it into operational goals for their departments. Support of internal stakeholders in the achievement of their objectives. Support of Internal stakeholders to see D&I intersections that they may have overlooked.

  • Partner with the Talent Management & Recruiting teams as a D&I expert.

Qualifications

  • HR / People team Experience: Understanding and (preferably) experience working in HR functions: Recruitment, Talent management, learning & development, and / or general business partner area.

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • D&I Expertise: Must have quantifiable expertise in the field of global diversity & inclusion, working in multinational companies.

  • Experience in diversity recruitment, learning and development programs, Employee resource groups and D&I councils and project management.

  • Excellent judgement and political savvy.

  • Excellent data and analytical skills; have experience to interpret data, translate it into implications, innovative D&I actions and outcomes.

  • Programmatic and hands on experience building D+I programs.

  • Able to utilize both a pragmatic (meet is where we are approach) but have big sky/future thinking to effectuate change and transformation.

  • Partnership/collaboration/influence skills.

  • Business/relationship development partnership skills – effective at building strategic partner relationships, within Talent, People team and throughout the lines of business.

  • Ability to collaborate at a high level with others on cross-functional teams.

Education

  • BA/BS degree in the areas of Business, HR, or Communications. Graduate degree preferred.

  • D&I Certification preferred
