Dow Jones Supervising Producer, Live Journalism in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

Live Journalism at The Wall Street Journal connects our audience with newsmakers and big ideas. The Journal is seeking an experienced, news-savvy, creative and technically-minded Supervising Producer to join our Live Journalism team.

From tech conferences to global gatherings of CEOs to our ambitious Future of Everything Festival, Journal events gather the world’s top leaders and thinkers to share ideas and make news. The Supervising Producer will play a key role in translating those events to our vast digital audience. This role will shepherd how our footage is translated to Journal platforms—across WSJ.com, as well as our off-platform strategy.

Successful candidates will have skills in a variety of areas—writing, research, live video production, shooting and editing. They will also have deep knowledge of business, culture and politics with a track record creating videos and video series from scratch. Our top candidate should be passionate about video interview content and have strong technical skills to make those interviews happen. This role is based in New York and reports to the Editor of Live Journalism and Special Content.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Oversee video and audio output at our live journalism events, working alongside multiple departments to ensure projects remain on schedule, budget and meet our newsroom needs.

  • Assign and oversee teams of shooters and video editors; manage shoots on location at events;

  • Serve as the senior producer of WSJ’s live Q&A events, working alongside leaders of the live journalism team and bureau chiefs on building news-reactive virtual events that build community for Journal readers;

  • Execute on video ideas from pitch to publish, working with live journalism editors and reporters on creative uses to repackage live journalism content

  • Direct all live journalism live streams across the Journal online and its social accounts;

  • Work collaboratively with our video and live events departments, as well as with other journalists in the newsroom.

Skills required:

  • 5+ years experience working in video journalism or educational video;

  • Excellent editor of both scripts & video;

  • Expert in Adobe Premiere, and proficiency with After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator;

  • Comfortable working in new mediums and formats–with a willingness to experiment and a dedication to improving production skills;

  • A deep understanding of the online video landscape and proven ability to reach a large audience on across social platforms;

  • Experience hiring and managing a small team a big plus;

  • Strong preference given to those who have experience shooting video and working in live video production;

  • Should be flexible with travel and have proven experience of meeting tight deadlines in high-pressure situations.

Pay Range: $65,000 - $200,000
