Dow Jones Senior Video Journalist, In-Depth Explanations in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a senior video journalist to produce clear and compelling explainer videos as part of its New York video team. Senior video journalists on this team produce informative and insightful videos ranging in length from two to seven minutes. Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in journalism, shooting and editing skills and deep experience reporting, conceptualizing and executing motion graphics and shooting live and stop-motion video. We are looking for someone with a track record of creating highly-visual, in-depth videos that make sense of complicated topics, trends, issues and developments, with a focus on The Journal's core coverage areas. You will have exceptional technical skill, high creativity and experience working under tight deadline constraints.

You will report to the Executive Producer on the In-Depth Explanations team. You will start this job remotely but will eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:

  • Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely video pieces that clearly communicate complicated topics, trends, issues and developments

  • Pitch, develop, research and write stories

  • Produce and shoot interviews in studio and come up with creative shoots with props and other objects

  • Edit videos using video, stills and motion graphics

  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed

  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production

  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant

You have:

  • At least five years' experience producing informational videos, preferably in a daily news environment at a global news organization

  • An ability to tell stories in creative ways using high-quality video, graphics and props

  • A deep understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas

  • The ability to work well across the newsroom and communicate with exceptional written skills

  • A professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Experience with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FS5, FS7 and A7S

  • Skills working with field and studio lighting setups
