Dow Jones Senior Video Engineer in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal Video team is seeking a Senior Video Engineer with strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to join our global video and audio team. This role is pivotal in supporting our production environment by ensuring smooth operations across live and recorded video formats. You will collaborate with video and audio staff to facilitate daily coverage, address technical challenges, and ensure the highest production standards.

We're looking for someone with a professional background in multi-format production and who demonstrates strong operational expertise in a digital control room and production environment. The position requires a knowledge of cloud-based workflows including Adobe Creative Cloud editing, AWS and media asset management. It's key that you stay up-to-date with technology and resources.

Because this is a global news operation, you must have organizational and interpersonal skills to balance a variety of production needs across offices in Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.

You will report to the Director of Multi-Format Production.

You Will:

  • Operate and maintain the digital control room, ensuring seamless multi-format production.

  • Oversee end-to-end livestream production, including setup, execution, and troubleshooting.

  • Configure and troubleshoot a variety of professional video and broadcast systems, including: Ross Ultrix, Carbonite Digital Switcher, AWS Elemental Encoders, MediaLive, Cinedeck recording devices, Evertz and other video/audio infrastructure.

  • Monitor and maintain agency feeds, ensuring video and audio fidelity across platforms.

  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production

  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including facilitating breaking news and special events coverage

  • Collaborate with editorial, production, and engineering teams to improve workflows and production quality.

  • Develop and implement troubleshooting procedures for video equipment, systems, and feeds.

  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant

You have:

  • At least five years of experience serving as an engineer in a production environment, preferably at a top-tier news organization.

  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, Avid Pro Tools, and cloud based media management workflows.

  • Experience producing results under tight deadline constraints.

  • Live control room experience and production workflow expertise.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud-based production environments and virtualized media workflows.

  • Previous work in a global media organization is a plus.
