Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a news junkie and experienced Senior Editor for WSJ Podcasts to assign stories, edit scripts and help produce and edit audio. You’ll work with an experienced team, tapping into the stories of the WSJ newsroom, fact-checking and editing short and long form scripts for multiple podcasts ranging from politics, business, tech news and more. The job may also include booking guests and prepping interviews, developing story ideas and filling in on the mic when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Help the executive producer lead the team in story pitch, booking guests, researching, fact-checking, and editing in the WSJ voice

  • Attend pitch meetings, offer editorial feedback, contribute to story generation and development

  • Interview WSJ reporters and sources, coaching those without audio experience

  • Source audio elements, mix audio for segments

  • Contribute to writing and structure of specific segments

  • Able to work in the field independently

  • Use ProTools to cut and assemble shows

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in audio storytelling

  • 3+ years working in a news- or news-adjacent setting, preferably in business news

  • Experience leading a team, ability to manage as deputy

  • Experience fact-checking and editing audio scripts, both before and after recordings

  • Experience learning and writing in a specific brand voice

  • Calm under pressure, able to switch gears and react to breaking news

  • Highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple projects at once

  • Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards

  • Experience communicating with and booking talent

  • Proficiency in cutting and mixing tape for audio publications

  • Experience field recording and on-air a plus

  • Collaborative and creative spirit a must
