ABOUT THE ROLE
The Subscription Marketing team is responsible for growing revenue and subscriber volume across Dow Jones brands, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, and Investor’s Business Daily. Within the Marketing organization, this role reports to the SVP, Marketing and Subscriptions Strategy and will work across the Subscriptions teams to meet revenue and volume goals.
We are seeking a strategic and analytical leader to serve as Senior Director of Pricing Strategy for our Consumer Subscriptions team. In this role, you will oversee subscriptions pricing and packaging strategy across our digital and print subscription products. Working at the intersection of marketing, product, finance, and analytics, you will shape how we deliver value to subscribers while driving sustainable revenue growth in a rapidly evolving news media landscape.
You will work in our midtown Manhattan office three days each week.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Pricing Strategy Leadership : Develop and own end-to-end pricing strategies for digital and print subscription products, including acquisition pricing, renewal pricing, promotional tactics, and bundling.
Revenue Optimization : Identify opportunities to improve subscriber LTV and ARPU through segmentation, dynamic pricing, and tailored offers. Balance volume growth with yield maximization.
Testing & Experimentation : Design and execute A/B and multivariate pricing tests in partnership with Product, Data Science, and Marketing teams. Rigorously analyze performance to guide decision-making.
Packaging & Value Proposition : Evaluate and evolve subscription tiers, bundles (e.g., digital-only vs. all-access), and introductory offers. Collaborate with Editorial and Product to align pricing with perceived content value.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Finance, Product, and Retention teams to ensure pricing strategies are seamlessly implemented, measured, and optimized across the subscriber lifecycle.
Competitive & Market Intelligence: Monitor industry pricing trends, competitor offerings, and consumer willingness to pay. Use external insights to inform internal strategy.
Forecasting & Scenario Planning : Model pricing scenarios and their impact on subscriber growth, churn, and revenue. Support annual planning and quarterly forecasting processes in collaboration with Finance.
Executive Communication: Present pricing recommendations and performance results to senior leadership. Translate complex data into compelling strategic insights.
YOU HAVE
The willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week
15+ years of experience in pricing strategy, revenue management, or growth strategy, preferably in subscription-based media, SaaS, or digital publishing
At least 2 years of subscription pricing experience
Deep understanding of subscription economics, including CAC, LTV, ARPU, churn, and conversion funnel dynamics
Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
Familiarity with journalism business models, paywalls, and customer segmentation strategies in news media
Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Collaborative mindset and a proven track record of thriving in a cross-functional environment
