The Dow Jones AdTech team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer who will support the first party data products within Dow Jones AdTech. This role will be primarily responsible for building, enhancing and maintaining new and current first party data products. You should have thought leadership when approaching technical challenges and an ability to mentor more junior team members.
As a member of the AdTech team, you will work closely with our data analysts, data engineers, product managers and strategy leads as we build internal data products. Day-to-day collaboration will happen with other data engineers within Dow Jones’ AdTech and DataSET team. Importantly, you will work directly with other engineers, product managers and program managers who collectively work on our internal data products.
You will report to the Manager of Ad Data Platform, who leads our AdTech data engineering team. While you may be asked to start work remotely, the job will eventually be based in our New York office.
To succeed, this candidate will need strong technical skills, communication skills, both verbal and written. This includes emails, JIRA, and presentation-style documentation. Along with this, they will need a fundamental understanding of Agile concepts and OKRs, specifically planning, processing and feedback.
Develop state-of-the-art scalable AWS data pipelines
Draw meaningful insights from large datasets, define key metrics to track performance, and develop actionable solutions to tackle business problems
Use visualization tools to present complex model and business insights in a simple, engaging manner for business stakeholders
Work closely with other data engineers to develop and deploy scalable applications
Perform data analysis on existing and new data sources to identify a potential use case for advertising
Identify opportunities for new data projects. Ask smart questions, diagnose the real problem, and develop a long-term solution
Work with stakeholders in a collaborative and strategic approach to develop the best solutions, and help translate those solutions and insights for the business to understand and leverage
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
At least 5+ years of relevant experience
Experience in developing data solutions using AWS
Experience building data pipelines using Spark
Programming experience with either Python or Scala
Understand sound engineering practices
SQL & relational database experience a must, experience with Big Data stack preferred
Experience in visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
Strong capacity to communicate complex concepts in easy-to-understand terminology
Ability to translate data and insight into a value-driving business plan
