Dow Jones Product Director, Commercial Strategy in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

Dow Jones seeks a product leader with a unique blend of business and technical savvy to partner with several teams that have responsibility for digital advertising revenue, including direct and programmatic ad sales, a branded content studio, sponsorships, ad operations, customer data platform, and ad tech partnerships.

To succeed in our highly matrixed environment, you should lead by influence and put the team’s needs ahead of your own. We’ll expect you to collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and Agile software development teams to build a roadmap of and rapidly assess, implement, test, and optimize revenue-generating initiatives for our websites and mobile apps.

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Implement features, products, and strategies that increase advertising revenue from Dow Jones’ various consumer-facing products, while respecting the user experience.

  • Effectively identify themes from current and prospective client needs, wants, and desires to inform the product development process.

  • Support efforts to collect and better-leverage first-party audience data.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to refine business objectives and goals.

  • Lead communication between developers, designers, and business stakeholders to resolve conflicts, address dependencies, and remove impediments to delivery.

  • Write clear, concise requirements and user stories that clearly and unambiguously communicate acceptance criteria (i.e. what success looks like).

  • Perform the day-to-day responsibilities of a Product Owner in the Agile software development lifecycle: grooming backlogs, prioritizing features, etc.

  • Monitor and analyze product performance metrics, using this data to improve existing products and identify new opportunities.

Ideal candidates will have these skills and qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in revenue-related roles at publishers, 3+ years in product.

  • Bachelor's degree. MBA or equivalent business experience preferred.

  • Familiar with the role of a Product Owner in the Agile software development lifecycle.

  • Able to think critically and constructively about complex business problems, clearly communicate your analyses and present solutions that address business needs.

  • Decisive with a bias towards action; you should thrive in fast-paced, agile environments.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Diplomatic, with a knack for synthesizing and prioritizing stakeholder requests.

  • Genuinely exhibit Dow Jones’ core values: trust, curiosity, and humility.

  • Highly motivated self-starter who can work effectively across cross-functional teams and also make things happen on your own.

  • Team player and fun to work with. Loves to share inspiration and new ideas.
