The Role:
Barron’s is seeking an innovative and passionate visual storyteller to work hand in hand with the Head of Visuals to establish the look & feel of the Barron’s brand through photography across all platforms. Candidates should have some experiencing managing teams and be excited by the notion of finding the right photographer for what can be difficult subject matter to create interesting and creative visuals. This individual will report into our Head of Design & Visuals. This person will be expected to work 3x a week from the New York City office, on a hybrid schedule.
You Will:
Manage the day to day operations of the photo department’s two full-time photo editors. Including:
Providing clear and concise feedback
Mentoring photo editors in how they think about/approach stories
Help develop individual photo editor’s voices and how to align that individual voice with the voice of Barron’s
Pairing stories with photo editors
Tracking assignments and project timelines
Overseeing image, caption, and credit accuracy
Negotiating fees, managing contracts and paperwork for assignments
Develop, deploy, and enforce workflows to increase the productivity of the department
Flag potential opportunities for photo-driven stories
Identify opportunities for in-house photo-illustration execution and help guide photo editors in their creation of assets
Sit-in and participate-in story meetings as Photo representation and to act as a source of knowledge and insight for the photo team
Maintain (and help guide PEs to maintain) clear and open communication with story editors
Work with the Head of Visuals in maintaining the voice of Barron’s through Photography
Source new talent among photographers, stylists, and additional contributors
Work with the Head of Visuals to maintain the photo budget
You Have:
10+ years in an editorial department or newsroom role
Adobe CC expertise
Knowledge of News, Business, and Finance a plus
Experience with Wordpress is a plus
Experience with Methode and/or K4 is a plus
