The Wall Street Journal is seeking an Operations Manager for its Digital Experience and Strategy (DXS) unit. This unit creates all of the Journal’s digital experiences and is leading the Journal’s digital transformation in its newsroom as well as in its products and technology. It’s a growing unit with a lot of change where fast progress, focus on culture, collaboration and excellent communication are highly valued.
In this role you’d work with DXS senior leadership to plan, track and accelerate work across a broad portfolio by implementing and evolving processes for key projects. You will also manage recruiting efforts for this growing team. The role is an opportunity to learn about the workings of many parts of a news, product and technology operation as well as to contribute to the future of The Wall Street Journal. A strong interest in the mission of news -- as well as the future of news -- is important. Prior experience in program management for strategic initiatives is helpful.
Candidates must exercise excellent professional judgment, show initiative, demonstrate aptitude for strong written and verbal communication, have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. You should be creative and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial environment that is results-driven.
In this role, you will be expected to:
Work with DXS senior leadership to efficiently recruit the best talent for open roles, scheduling interviews, distributing interview materials, gathering feedback from interviewers, and onboarding new hires. Keep Finance, HR and other stakeholders fully abreast of all progress and ensure that company policies—including those relating to diversity, equity and inclusion—are followed by hiring managers.
Help create and champion new ways of working that ensure we’re rapidly “experimenting our way to the right answer” and building the right solutions for our MACU (members, audience, customers, users).
Help assemble some of the communications and presentations coming out of the unit and coordinate across the broader Technology organization.
Monitor DXS’ highest-profile projects and initiatives, looking for opportunities to accelerate and remove obstacles, involving senior leaders where needed.
Assist in quarterly product prioritization process for a broad portfolio.
Assist the Chief News Strategist and Chief Product & Technology Officer assemble competitive research on other news and technology companies, keeping abreast of industry trends.
Help organize the unit’s existing culture squad, lead coordination of off-sites and quarterly gatherings. Help identify growth opportunities we bring together technology, product and news cultures.

Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maturity

Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and able to build relationships
Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
Comfortable gathering and synthesizing data
Proficient in GSuite (GMail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)
Interest in media, communications and technology preferred
