About the Role
The Manager, Employee Relations (ER) is a new position within the People organization. You will support the VP, ER & Labor Relations in building a new Center of Excellence within the People team. You will focus on managing matters related to the relationships between our company and our employees, as well as the interactions with labor unions. You will possess a generalist skill set working in Union and Non-Union organizations. You will need an understanding of employment practices, conflict resolution, labor laws, and excellent communication skills. You will work with senior management, legal teams, and People Business Partners to ensure that we maintain positive employee relationships and complies with relevant labor regulations.
You Will:
Report to the VP, Employee & Labor Relations and be based in our New York City office
Help implement ER systems and tools, and draft policies and practices that fosters relationships between our organization and its employees.
Manage and address employee concerns, grievances, and disputes in a fair and consistent manner, partnering with the People Connect team and the People Business Partners.
Conducting in-depth investigations on policy violations and employee relations matters, maintain detailed and accurate accounts with memorialization of notes and supporting documents.
Create an environment of positive employee relations by respecting confidentiality, establishing trust and credibility, using sound judgment and being seen by employees as approachable and fair
Partner with the Legal team to review all employee relation issues and recommended resolutions
Be involved in formal mediation or arbitration processes which could include outside counsel or other external parties
Show excellent partnership to your team, business leaders, and our employees by accomplishing the goals that are set forth in a thoughtful and reliable way
Facilitate effective communication between management and employees or labor unions. This includes disseminating important information, explaining policies, and addressing concerns
Aid and help develop training programs to educate managers and employees about labor laws, company policies, and dispute resolution techniques
Support Labor Relations negotiations and work with the VP to prepare for formal meetings with union leaders
In partnership with our People Insights team, you will use data and analytics to identify trends and opportunities for proactive issue mitigation and make informed decisions regarding employee and labor relations programs
You Have:
7+ years experience including relevant human resources experience (employee relations, performance management, compliance, and labor relations)
The ability to position yourself as credible, proactive, (garners respect, acts with integrity, keeps commitments); proactive (has a point of view, challenges assumptions, takes initiative); and a trusted thought partner acting always with integrity and excellent judgment (builds relationships, delivers results)
Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information
Demonstrated experience to balance company priorities with employee advocacy
Expertise working and collaborating with a global HR team
Knowledge of current employment/labor laws (federal, state, and local regulations)
Experience using data and analytics to develop recommendations and actions
Experience managing and resolving issues/negotiations
Experience working in a union environment
