About the Team:

The Global Risk, Safety and Resilience (GRSR) team manages our operational risks and advises the business on other commercial, strategic or reputational challenges. With functions covering audits and investigations, business resilience (incident and crisis management, business continuity), digital risk, event security, global operations and insights, health, safety and wellness, newsroom safety, executive protection and workplace security. The department covers a diverse technical portfolio leveraged to ensure risks are reasonably managed, security threats addressed and disruptions limited in support of Dow Jones' strategic goals.

About the Role

The ability to remain resilient in the face of disruption - from physical events, to major system outages and a multitude of other incidents - is one of the most critical challenges facing businesses today. For a dynamic company such as Dow Jones, operating across a quickly changing global landscape and facing unique risks, ensuring business resilience is critical to enabling our core business objectives.

The Manager, Business Resilience role requires an experienced practitioner well-versed in risk, resilience and effective controls. Based in our global headquarters in New York City, this is a hybrid position balancing requirements between remote and on-site working. Reporting to the Director of Business Resilience, you may travel up to 10% of the year within the majority of the travel taking place domestically and responsible for supporting an incident and business continuity management program across the company.

You Will:

  • Support the implementation, development and maintenance of the resilience management system.

  • Work closely with the company's business resilience lead, risk and safety colleagues, functional leaders and department heads, third parties and affiliate organizations to:

  • Ensure the completeness and utility of our resilience program; business impact assessments, associated business continuity plans and supporting disaster recovery plans in a complex matrixed and technology-heavy environment.

  • Participate in the identification, assessment and monitoring of business continuity risks through regular review and horizon scanning.

  • Raise awareness of potential causes of disruptive incidents with stakeholders so they can prepare as appropriate.

  • Gather feedback and apply domain expertise to make practical and resource-related recommendations to improve organizational resilience through a governance framework.

  • Improve awareness and understanding of business continuity procedures and the actions required to successfully execute against plans.

  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to raise awareness of business continuity risks and mitigation strategies.

  • Support the production of responses to client information requests related to resilience programming.

  • Follow up and review third party risk assessments, share results with business units, work on mitigation plans to ensure a cohesive approach to business continuity planning.

  • Manage BC contractor services and program-assigned vendor staff.

  • Review and update disruption/incident/crisis management plans and supporting procedures across the company in close collaboration with risk and security colleagues, other departments and leaders.

  • Develop, organize and deliver regular business continuity and incident management training to educate staff about business continuity protocols and their roles during the incident.

  • Update and manage dashboards, key metrics and produce regular reports.

  • Ensure that business continuity plans comply with relevant regulations and standards, and maintain documentation for audit.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a global business continuity/crisis management role at similarly complex organizations.

  • A critical-thinking mindset and can understand complex situations and provide unique solutions with appropriate levels of detail.

  • A desire for continuous learning, development and career growth by being a collegial, dynamic and proactive contributor.

  • An interest in global events and have a good understanding of how social, political, environmental, economic and conflict dynamics can affect enterprise risk.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you must be able to brief and influence effectively and translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms. Careful information sharing is critical as is tailoring your communications style for various audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan in a clear and structured manner, set objectives and milestones and deliver impactful results.

Preferred Qualities

  • Successful experience applying risk management and business resilience principles.

  • Proven track of records of managing incidents across multiple business functions and locations.

  • Experience in supporting/ developing business resiliency tech platforms (incident and business continuity modules).

  • Knowledge of the ISO 22301 standard, experience implementing it within complex organizations.

  • A relevant business continuity qualification (CBCI, CBCM, CBCP, C/DRE) is an advantage.
