About the Role:
As a Lead Software Engineer in the API and Feeds teams at Dow Jones, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining GraphQL APIs that power our applications. You will work closely with our front-end and back-end development teams to ensure efficient data retrieval and manipulation, delivering seamless user experiences. This is a hybrid position based in our New York City or Princeton NJ location. The role will report to our Senior Manager, Engineering.
You Will:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define GraphQL schemas and API requirements.
Maintain and expand our GraphQL APIs to support various Dow Jones B2B and B2C brands and applications.
Develop and optimize GraphQL queries and mutations for efficient data fetching and updating.
Troubleshoot and resolve API performance issues, ensuring scalability and responsiveness.
Play an active role in the software development lifecycle, and collaborate with senior developers to set the technical direction and long-term strategy for future initiatives.
Have keen technical and product sense and know when a feature works, and when it can be improved.
Write clean code, participate in code reviews, talk about code, advocate best practices, and facilitate technical discussions to ensure solving problems in concert.
Stay updated on GraphQL best practices and emerging trends in web development.
You Have:
Proven experience as a GraphQL Developer with proficiency in GraphQL query language and schema design.
Proficiency with GraphQL server framework and tools. Apollo Server is preferred.
Experience as a Node.js Developer, with a solid understanding of Node.js and its core principles.
Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
Deep understanding of modern backend technologies building RESTful or GraphQL APIs and web services.
Experience with AWS Cloud services like EC2, Cloudfront and Lambda.
Experience working with MongoDB, DynamoDB or other NOSQL databases.
Proficiency in using Git for source code management.
Knowledge of GraphQL subscriptions for real-time data updates.
3+ years of experience working in a production environment is preferred.
Experience writing internal documentation and system flow charts to keep the team informed.
Positive, optimistic approach and the ability to work well as part of a broader team/organization.
Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
