About the Role
MarketWatch is seeking an ambitious editor to own and evolve our crucial coverage of healthcare. This is a defining role that requires a journalist who will break news, deliver smart analysis on the companies that make up the sector and shape high-impact editorial strategy in one of the most vital sectors in the economy.
You will lead our efforts to cover the companies and forces key to our healthcare in America. That includes pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, hospitals and insurance – while also weighing in on the issues confronting patients who are trying to navigate the system.
This role requires a curious and passionate journalist who is comfortable alternating between industries that provide medical products, services and care to sweeping public policy matters in Washington and the personal health challenges that confront everyday people.
This is your chance to define MarketWatch's healthcare vertical: driving growth, guiding contributors, and helping produce must-read reporting that's fast, accessible, and reader-oriented. The successful candidate will also be comfortable going beyond the daily news to develop original, ambitious enterprise stories.
You will write and report while also building and editing a roster of external healthcare contributors who can provide MarketWatch readers with insightful analysis on developments in the sector.
Candidates should have experience with healthcare reporting and editing. The role will be based in New York.
You Will:
Thrive in a newsroom abuzz with passion and energy
Work well under pressure
Be a skilled, insightful and compassionate interviewer
Bring voice and analysis to complex topics
Craft sharp, engaging headlines and story packaging that speaks to a wide array of readers
Be meticulous in your copy and ambitious in your reporting
Shape MarketWatch's coverage of a sector that touches every American and drives a considerable share of the economy.
Stay ahead of policy, regulatory and public health developments that could impact U.S. households and markets
You Have:
At least 7 years of experience writing and editing in a fast-paced newsroom, focused on making sense of money and finance
Experience leading or shaping vertical coverage is a plus
Strong track record covering healthcare or related sectors (corporate, policy, personal health) with a consumer-oriented lens
A strong grasp of audience development strategies including how to position stories for maximum visibility on social media and search engines
