Job Description:

Factiva General Manager

The Professional Information Business at Dow Jones plays a critical role in the delivery of key B2B products that power decision making at global businesses. We are a truly global business with a customer base in the US and around the world. We provide information, data and analytics to help support and drive our customers key business decisions, and protect their organizations from risk.

Position Statement:

This Factiva General Manager requires strategic vision, decisive business leadership, and talent for managing senior level relationships. While it is critical that this position demands careful attention to our present customers needs, a significant portion of this role involves driving future growth in new segments. They must foster a culture of collaboration, working effectively across the Professional Information Business, and other groups within Dow Jones, to deliver results and make decisions that enhance the profitability of our product. The GM must think strategically, assessing options and taking action based on their knowledge of current and potential customers and partners, the competitive landscape and the vision and goals of the organization, developing a sustainable and growing commercial strategy for all revenue streams.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Commercial oversight of Factiva, ensuring clear focus on the revenue and profitability of products and services provided to customers.

  • Identifying and developing strategic & opportunistic revenue that will have a positive impact on EBITDA.

  • Accountable for the customer and market business case, working closely with sales and marketing to define products and capture commercial opportunity

  • Developing a roadmap that will drive growth and define/prioritize use cases, business requirements and product monetization.

  • Work in partnership with other interested parties to identify the capital expenditure requirements for product development and work as part of the PIB Leadership Group to gain approval and formally request funds.

  • Building a strong and unified team who understand all opportunities within their market sector.

  • An excellent understanding of the competitor landscape and provide clear direction to the business on where this presents risks or opportunities

  • Translate strategic vision into growth models. Track learnings and oversee analysis to ensure the team can drive the business forward.

  • Act as a Dow Jones Thought Leader at high-profile events.

  • Ownership of partner strategy for market specialisms to ensure that we maximize revenue opportunities by using 3rd parties, where they are stronger at delivering into market segments/geographies.

  • Reviewing and evaluating M&A opportunities, as appropriate.

  • Work in partnership with the Technology department to ensure that the product roadmap is developed in line with our customers’ expectations and revenue targets.

  • Leading the discussions with Sales and Marketing to define the go-to-market strategy for all new or enhancements to our products and services.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in B2B and/or B2C media, delivering successful commercial outcomes for information, analytics or media properties

  • Senior role in enterprise software, particularly in strategy, commercial and P&L capacity

  • Led a commercial and/or sales team in software or media go-to-market

  • A strong strategist with proven business acumen

  • A background in commercial management who consistently demonstrates sound judgment

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills up to and including board level

  • Significant track record of delivery and driving commercial goals.
