Job Description:


Each year, Dow Jones produces over 250 events globally across all of its brands, the majority of which are for The Wall Street Journal. This multi-million dollar business connects our members with the newsmakers and big ideas that they read about in our publications. From technology conferences and global gatherings of CEOs, to private dinners and annual tentpole events, like the Future of Everything Festival, we give the world’s top leaders and innovators a platform to share ideas and network. Job Description

You will lead a newly joined up department that will oversee the business for all editorial and commercial events across all of our brands. You will need to design the blueprint to scale this business and leverage our ability to create world-class experiences to fast-track revenue growth from both attendees, partners and sponsors. You will be responsible for creating a clear vision and metrics, gaining alignment amongst key stakeholders, and empowering the team to implement this vision.

You will supervise a large team across various disciplines, who will be responsible for:

  • Event execution, experience and production

  • Project management and commercial programming

  • Speaker logistics and on stage production

  • Sponsorship sales

You will work alongside a marketing team who will deliver audience recruitment and ticket sales to you and your team.

This team will be responsible for building on existing event franchises, launching new series, taking our brand to new international markets and generating more commercial opportunities that bring value to our members and clients. You will work hand-in-hand with our executive team and our Live Journalism team in the Newsroom to make it happen - maintaining the rigorous standards and ethics of The Wall Street Journal.


You have:

  • A proven ability to set a strategic vision for an events business and deliver results.

  • A deep appreciation for quality journalism and our brands.

  • HIghly commercial and creative - able to both respond to and create briefs for exceptional experiences that bring to life brands - ours and our partners.

  • An exceptional network of high profile C-suite leaders, talent, agencies, and brands, preferably across multiple industries.

  • Creative and ambitious ideas that can translate into world-class experiences and commercial opportunities.

  • An understanding of the sales process, how to work with sales teams and clients to translate pitches into reality.

  • Inspiring leadership skills and the ability to generate excitement and trusted partnerships.

  • The ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment across Editorial, Sales and Membership teams with exceptional stakeholder management.

  • The confidence in your abilities as a leader to accept criticism and at times scrap the original plan if there is a better solution. No ego.

  • Experience managing a large team who work across various verticals.

  • Clarity of thought and clear communication, especially under pressure.

  • A decisive point of view with good judgment.

  • Curiosity, kindness, and tenacity with high integrity.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Have 10+ years experience of growing an international events business(es) and with a track record of commercial leadership and success with the events industry.

  • Have 10+ years in the content and media industry.

  • Deep understanding and knowledge of sponsorship sales and activation.

  • Have experience in a matrix organization and demonstrated success.

  • Have 10+ years managing people.

  • Have an extensive network of high profile C-suite leaders, talent, agencies and brands.

  • Have experience with both corporate media organizations and “new” online content based media.

  • Have experience with new forms of media such as experiential type activations.
