Job Description:

Editor, Newsroom Talent

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an editor to assist with the newsroom’s hiring and development efforts. The Newsroom Talent Editor will help with recruitment, personnel management, career development and diversity initiatives.

You will work closely with the Assistant Managing Editor for Talent, the rest of the newsroom talent team and other senior editors to ensure that the WSJ newsroom is full of highly capable and productive people who are thriving in their roles and advancing their careers. You will also work, in collaboration with the Culture, Training and Outreach team, to promote a diverse, inclusive and welcoming newsroom. We are looking for someone who is committed to the Journal and our mission and who can serve as an ambassador for our values.

You will:

  • Help set and uphold standard processes for recruitment, hiring and onboarding for our journalists.

  • Manage and publicize job postings

  • Develop relationships with editors across our global newsroom to better understand the needs of the organization.

  • Work with hiring managers to help build and maintain a strong pipeline of talent. Specialized knowledge in the areas of video, audio, visual and/or magazine journalism is a plus.

  • Help identify, assess and interview potential job candidates.

  • Support career-development programs for high-potential staffers to maximize retention and the internal promotion of the best candidates.

  • Represent the Journal at career fairs, journalism conferences and recruiting events.

  • Maintain strong lines of communication with job candidates and help coordinate interviews.

  • Proactively coordinate with our HR and mobility teams on relocation, assignment letters and visa renewals.

  • Help coordinate the recruitment, onboarding and oversight of temporary workers.

  • Assist the rest of the newsroom talent team with general recruitment efforts.

  • Assist the AME, Operations, with special projects.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong communication and people skills.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships and trusted networks.

  • Deep understanding of the brand values and mission of The Wall Street Journal.

  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to represent the best of the Journal’s core attributes at speaking engagements, recruiting events and internal training.

  • Critical thinking and diplomatic problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to juggle high-volume recruitment and multiple projects.

  • At least two years of experience in journalism and/or recruiting/HR.

While you may start this job remotely, you will be based in our New York newsroom. You will report to the Assistant Managing Editor, Talent.
