Dow Jones Director of Strategic Initiatives in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Professional Membership team is responsible for recruiting and retaining members of the world’s foremost influential business memberships. We equip ambitious professionals with the essential intelligence and tools they need to better lead their industries, grow their businesses and advance their careers. We provide a highly specialized service that builds on the power of our journalism, the insight of our analysis, the ambition of our audience and the continuity of community.

The Director of Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for helping set strategy for the Professional Membership team, executing against that strategy and creating commercially viable partnerships to improve revenue and profitability. The role is integral to the success of the newly created Professional unit.

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands media companies, has been responsible for managing revenue and has experience in working in large matrixed companies. This person will be curious, ambitious, enthusiastic and easy to work with. They will be able to motivate others. In this role, good communication is key so very strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The candidate must also be extremely organized; project management experience is a plus.

Candidate will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to strategic vision for the team, and creating operational plans underneath that strategy

  • Be the one to ‘connect the dots’ between departments at Dow Jones, ensuring we are taking advantage of all the assets under our corporate umbrella to maximize revenue

  • Ensuring operational excellence in the professional group

  • Ensuring goals are understood, plans are made to achieve those goals, deadlines are set and progress is being made

  • Assist in molding the culture of the group, taking the lead on seating, training and staff development and career pathing.

  • Manage the sales operations team & performance

  • Manage the milestones and path to our team’s subscriber volume goals

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-10+ years media experience.

  • 5+ years experience managing a team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to speak effectively with all levels of management.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Understands how to work with different people and different working styles across the organization and inside member companies.

  • Positive, energetic and dynamic self-starter.

  • Ability to convey a sense of urgency.

  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Resourceful style; willingness to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.

  • Sets a strong example for others by working collaboratively
