About the Team:
The Global Risk, Safety and Resilience (GRSR) team manages our operational risks and advises the business on other commercial, strategic or reputational challenges, with functions covering audits and investigations, business resilience (incident and crisis management, business continuity), digital risk, event security, global operations and insights, health, safety and wellness, newsroom safety, executive protection and workplace security. The department covers a diverse technical portfolio leveraged to ensure risks are reasonably managed, security threats addressed and disruptions limited in support of Dow Jones' strategic goals.
About the Role
The Director, Executive Safety & Event Security is based in our headquarters in midtown Manhattan. This is a hybrid role balancing requirements between travel and the office. You can expect to travel up to 30% of the year with the majority of the travel taking place domestically; some international travel is required.
As a prominent content publisher and data provider, Dow Jones enjoys strong market presence and brand visibility - our executive leadership is similarly high profile. We host over one hundred events each year convening leaders and thousands of attendees around the world. Reporting to the Head of Global Risk, Safety & Resilience, you will ensure the safety and security of Dow Jones executives, high-profile personnel, and corporate events. Informed by departmental strategy, this is an operations leading role with a robust team structure, extensive utilization of contract security services, and collaboration with key stakeholders for success.
You Will:
Help ensure Dow Jones staff, assets, property and business operations are safe from current and emerging threats and actively promote an innovative approach toward risk, think creatively and drive contemporary solutions.
Inform strategies and operational goals with usable intelligence, data and industry trends to drive initiatives, innovations, corrective action and constant improvement.
Design, oversee and improve executive protection and event safety programs (policies, plans, training, procedures, standards and guidelines) to safeguard key leaders and corporate events.
Address unique and fluid executive risk profiles ensuring alignment with corporate policies and objectives. This includes advance planning and the execution of executive protection services when necessary.
Conduct and oversee threat assessments and drive real-time intelligence monitoring to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential risks.
Manage vendor services, sourcing efforts, budgets, timelines, and resource plans to ensure efficiency.
Maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies and security providers, ensuring Dow Jones has access to critical and high-quality support during events or crises.
Serve as the executive safety and event security functional owner for all aspects of incident management and emergency response.
Stay updated on emerging security threats, trends, new technologies and best practices in executive protection and event security to inform strategy and operations.
Support corporate compliance with security regulations, ensuring adherence to industry standards and legal requirements.
Lead and contribute to projects and planning, participating in broader, critical risk management initiatives.

You Have:
This is a highly visible role with a critical security remit. It is essential you have solid experience in personal protection and event safety and security management within a large global organization. You will need strong influencing skills at senior levels and be highly analytical with the ability to drive operational results.
Minimum of 12 years of proven experience in executive or personal protection, event safety, and security management within a large, complex global organization. This means you have a comprehensive understanding of both practical and theoretical security approaches, maintain practice currency, have a solid approach toward planning, and can manage a team and engage stakeholders for success.
Extensive experience in executive protection, including advance security planning, crisis response, and high-profile safety and security operations.
Experience working for C-Suite level executives in the provision of executive protection and event safety and security.
Strong background in law enforcement, military, or corporate security roles, with deep knowledge of security risk assessment methodologies.
Critical thinking skills - able to evaluate complex safety and security situations and develop effective solutions.
Experience managing vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and security services providers.
Proficiency in security technologies, surveillance systems, access control mechanisms, and emergency response planning.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, make critical decisions quickly, and adapt to evolving and dynamic security environments.
A collegial, dynamic, and proactive contributor with a desire for continuous learning, development, and career growth.
An interest in global events and a good understanding of how social, political, environmental, economic and conflict dynamics can affect enterprise risk and security.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to brief and influence effectively. Careful information sharing is critical as is tailoring your communications style for various audiences.
Demonstrated ability to plan in a clear and structured manner, set objectives and milestones, and deliver impactful results.
Availability for domestic and international travel (up to 30% of the year) and on-call response to unexpected emergencies.
Preferred Qualities
Past experience managing event safety or security practice, close protection, and crisis response strategies in an organization with a similarly visible brand identity and event schedule.
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification or 10+ years law enforcement executive protection.
Strong law enforcement, safety and security networks, particularly in New York City, where Dow Jones headquarters operations are based.
Familiarity and compliance to align with the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA).
Experience working internationally, navigating different cultural and legal security considerations.
AHA CPR Certification or equivalent emergency response training.
Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and/or on-call as required to meet business and security needs (with appropriate scheduled consideration for downtime and personal schedule preferences).
