About the Role
We are looking for a data science manager to join the Data Science & Strategy team for Dow Jones’ Membership group. You will oversee the ongoing optimization of paywall rules and membership strategy for MarketWatch’s new subscription product. You will build models to better understand and reduce churn for MarketWatch members, identifying “sticky” habits for retaining new members. Additionally, you will measure membership's impact on MarketWatch advertising revenue, and share relevant insights on MarketWatch members to the advertising team.
The membership team is committed to supporting great business journalism through the improvement of our products and the growth of our subscription business. We obsess over building outstanding data products that bring applied research methods to all stages of the customer lifecycle.
We ask that you have a background in customer analytics and a passion for topics in data science like machine learning and multivariate testing. Working with the MarketWatch product organization, you will oversee future experimentation around subscription offerings. You will also provide the MarketWatch editorial team with helpful insights and recommendations on how to improve publishing strategy for a membership model.
You will report to our Associate Director, Data Analytics.
Build predictive models that help us better automate and personalize customer communications with MarketWatch members. Draw meaningful insights from the process and produce those models in a manner that make our products and marketing feel more connected.
Consult the engagement team on best practices for segmentation in their member communications.
Communicate with team members across MarketWatch, identifying requirements, reporting on important success metrics and remediating discrepancies.
Identify opportunities for creative ways we can engage and retain our members—with a focus on strengthening sticky habits. Ask smart questions, diagnose the problem, and develop long-term solutions.
You have at minimum a bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, mathematics, data analytics, data science, or a relevant quantitative field. Applicants with relevant technical experience and a professional background in media are also encouraged to apply.
3+ years experience in an analytics or media-related role.
An enthusiasm for MarketWatch and an understanding of the product.
You have experience working with data science-related libraries in Python or R, and have a mastery of common analytics tools; SQL, Tableau, Excel (can perform complex functions) .
You are self motivated and sweat the details.
