The Wall Street Journal’s Opinion section is looking for a data analyst to help deliver critical digital insights and visualizations to help guide strategy. This person will also be instrumental in the creation of new dashboards and metrics that will help with reporting and analysis on Opinion’s audience, traffic and growth. The role provides daily research support to the team and responsibilities include daily, weekly, and quarterly data reviews of Opinion content, analysis of historical and planned articles, and collaboration with other data teams in developing audience insights.
The Wall Street Journal has a large digital audience that is quickly growing. As we grow, we are dedicated to understanding all of our audiences and the value we provide them. The data analyst will also work with WSJ team members on our Programming and News Insights teams, which is using data science and predictive modeling to help us engage better with our audiences.

While you may start this job remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.
The Data Analyst will have:
At least 1-2 years of experience in a data analyst role
The ability to manage, organize and present data in a clear, concise and actionable format to a wide array of audiences
Great communication skills to be able to teach editors and reporters how to use tools and think about audience and traffic data
The ability to turn raw data into visual insights to help support content decisions.
Flexible workflow and ability to manage multiple assignments in a dynamic environment
Creativity and strong critical thinking skills
Top candidates will have strengths in multiple areas of the following:
Knowledge of Python (preferred) or R
Mid-level/advanced experience working in SQL and Excel
Familiarity with statistical and significance tests
Experience with Linux and cloud-based services. Experience with Tableau, Looker, Google Data Studio or similar BI tool is a plus.
Knowledge of data analytics tools, including Omniture, Google Analytics, Parse.ly or Chartbeat is a plus
Candidates should be familiar with the ideas, philosophy and principles for which the Wall Street Journal editorial page stands
Although not requirements, skills appropriate for advanced visual and data journalism, such as knowledge of D3 and Illustrator; command of HTML, CSS and JS, would be a plus.
