Dow Jones Coverage Producer, Live Journalism in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an energetic, efficient and news-minded coverage producer to join our Live Journalism team. This producer will help shepherd our multimedia content before, during and after our flagship and industry events.

Wall Street Journal events gather top industry leaders, thinkers and newsmakers. You will work across our biggest franchises to distinguish Journal events from the rest. In this role, you will devise ways to magnify our events using video: from streaming on social media platforms to thematic videos to clipping the best bites for wider distribution across the Journal and Dow Jones. The ideal candidate will have great ideas for stories, videos and graphics that grow out of - or feed into - our live journalism.

The position will report to the Supervising Producer for Video and will be based in our New York or San Francisco office.

You will:

  • Assist the Supervising Producer in coverage planning and execution of flagship WSJ events such as WSJ Tech Live, Future of Everything Festival and CEO Council Summit.

  • Collaborate with coverage chiefs, reporters, editors, and producers across the newsroom to develop comprehensive coverage strategies for WSJ industry events such as Global Food Forum, CFO, CMO, CIO, Health Forum.

  • Develop and execute livestream strategy on WSJ platforms working closely with the Supervising Producer, off-platform and live journalism editors.

  • Assist with research and development of concepts for original videos, guests, and stage formats for WSJ Live Journalism events.

  • Attend technical checks and moderator rehearsals for key interviews to ensure the highest audio and video quality.

  • Manage encoders, video feeds and live streams in coordination with engineering, production partners and video control room, troubleshooting as needed.

  • Produce and edit news clips during live events, write copy for video headlines and descriptions, and publish them on various platforms, including social media.

  • Work with a team of video editors and producers to create news clips from live interviews to be used in WSJ articles or as standalone video content under tight, breaking news deadlines.

  • Collaborate with the WSJ conference team to ensure news content meets WSJ legal and journalistic standards.

  • Be able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including during breaking news events.

You have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in video production.

  • Strong editorial judgment with broad knowledge and interest in current events and news.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

  • The ability to work in a high pressure, constantly changing environment, while juggling multiple priorities, teams and stakeholders.

  • Great organization skills and proficient in juggling conflicting priorities simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in Premiere Pro.

  • Ideally, newsroom experience.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work.
