The Chief Privacy Officer, Associate General Counsel, serves as lead global privacy counsel for Dow Jones, including developing, leading and maintaining the company’s comprehensive privacy program and privacy compliance efforts, and actively participating in structuring and implementing the company's digital and e-commerce strategies.
The Chief Privacy Officer develops and oversees relevant policies and procedures, trains employees throughout the company, assists with internal and external communications relating to privacy matters, and investigates and manages cyber risks and potential incidents.
The role collaborates cross-functionally with colleagues around the world in Legal, Product, Marketing, Information Security, News, Tech, HR, Finance and other business and management functions. The Chief Privacy Officer reports to the General Counsel and also leads the Executive Privacy Steering Committee, as well as the company's Privacy Champion Council.
Serve as lead privacy counsel responsible for creating, updating, and implementing the company’s global privacy program.
Lead the strategy and implementation of Dow Jones’s global privacy principles, policies and related procedures (for example, notice and consent requirements, data transfer requirements, vendor due diligence, etc.).
Serve as lead global privacy counsel in connection with employee privacy and business activities (e.g., e-commerce, digital and mobile initiatives, marketing, online advertising).
Manage a small team of in-house privacy professionals in different offices and support the professional development of Legal and other colleagues in this area.
Manage outside privacy counsel in multiple jurisdictions.
Assist Legal colleagues with drafting and negotiating privacy/data protection/security language for third party agreements.
Conduct formal and informal privacy risk assessments to ensure the company's resources in this area are appropriately utilized.
Oversee the company’s implementation and use of privacy risk management software (One Trust) for conducting Privacy Impact Assessments, data mapping and inventory, and updating the record of processing.
Ensure employees receive privacy and security training commensurate with their roles and responsibilities.
Oversee and update (as needed) the company’s data subject rights response process, and provide guidance regarding any individual complaints or related inquiries from regulators.
Stay abreast of changing privacy laws and regulations in order to notify management of developing risks as appropriate and proactively manage changes needed for compliance.
Report on privacy risks, upcoming legislation and privacy program maturity to Dow Jones executives on the Privacy Steering Committee and News Corp.
Serve as leader of the company's Privacy Champion Council to ensure other functions and general management support for the company’s privacy efforts. The Privacy Champion Council meets quarterly and serves to both create and educate privacy champions concerning privacy issues, and provide a forum for members to discuss privacy issues they encounter.
Serve as a member of the company’s Cybersecurity Task Force and work closely with the company’s CISO to proactively manage cybersecurity risks.
Support internal investigations, as required; together with the company’s CISO and information security team, manage investigations and any required remediation efforts.
Act as the main liaison for privacy and cybersecurity regulators.
Act as the company’s privacy liaison to News Corp and affiliated companies, and actively coordinate privacy compliance efforts with these affiliated companies.
JD with active bar license in New York or New Jersey required.
At least 10 years of privacy experience and extensive knowledge of privacy laws and regulations required.
International Association of Privacy Professionals certification(s) required.
In-house legal experience designing/overseeing privacy programs preferred.
International experience and familiarity with the media industry desired.
