Associate Product Manager, Subscriptions, Cancellation + Membership Hub

What Does the Subscriptions Product Team Do?

We are a team of product managers who look after Dow Jones’s critical subscription experiences across our brands and platforms:

  • Paywall + Sampling

  • New Subscription Products + Product Selection

  • Checkout + Payments

  • Onboarding

  • In-Product Engagement

  • Membership Hub + Cancellation

We work with our key partners, subscriptions marketing and subscriptions technology to identify customer needs and opportunities to maximize customer and business value. We then prioritize these items based on impact and effort, empower the technology team to creatively develop the best solution, and then launch these new experiences as controlled experiments to cleanly measure their impact.

What will you do?

You will be a truth-seeking missile, scrappily developing hypotheses about how to make better product experiences leveraging UX research, analytics, competitive analysis and past experiments. You will develop insights into hypotheses, user stories and mockups, which you will help prioritize based on scale, impact and effort and strategic importance. You will be given full ownership of smaller roadmaps as quickly as you are able.

You will manage technical execution of development, launch, monitoring while live. In partnership with data science, you will creatively, meticulously analyze the experiment results, slicing and dicing the data to look for value wherever it might be hiding, and then track the long-term impact on members.

What is specific to membership hub and cancellation?

Membership hub is where our millions of subscribers manage their subscriptions and user preferences. We need to invest in making it the most intuitive and user-friendly platform for doing so. Because it’s the entry point for subscribers exploring cancellation of their subscription, it presents a strategic opportunity to expose or reframe the value of our subscriptions a step before they enter our cancellation flow.

The cancellation flow is our last chance to repair our relationship with an unsatisfied customer. We need to balance the monetarily measurable upside of ‘saving’ would-be cancellers by communicating the value of our subscription with the harder to measure but equally important brand perception that would be damaged if we made the experience too onerous. It’s a fascinating and complex customer riddle: we desperately want to slow them down and re-pitch them on the value of our subscriptions, but we also need to make it very easy for subscribers who are intent on leaving.

We need an aspiring product leader who embraces this most challenging of customer conundrums.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication

  • Strong analytical, strategic, and creative problem-solving capabilities with the aptitude to identify KPIs and gather and analyze data

  • Ruthless focus and instinctive prioritization for delivering maximum value.

  • An ability to help strategically solve technical problems because of prior direct experience working with engineers and/or data scientists.

  • An understanding of the tools and techniques used in digital product development

  • Prior experience in Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or another major analytics platform to gather, sort, analyze, and action data

NYC Pay Range: $40,000 - $160,000
