McCloskey by OPIS has an opening in its steel raw materials team for an Associate Director, Audience Management, focusing on ferro alloys and related materials. In the short term, this candidate will drive the launch of our inaugural ferro alloys conference in South Africa at the end of January. The primary responsibility for the first three months will be to generate a pipeline of clients who will consider attending this event. The McCloskey Steel & Ferroalloys Conference will bring together industry leaders, traders, and stakeholders to discuss key trends, challenges, and opportunities in the ferro alloys market, with a focus on the trade between South Africa and India. This event will cover topics such as market dynamics, supply chain challenges, pricing trends, and the impact of global regulations on the ferro alloys industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions, network with industry peers, and gain valuable insights into the future of the ferro alloys market.
The successful candidate will take a leadership role within McCloskey’s growing steel practice, with a specific emphasis on the ferro alloys market. The role is a critical part of our Steel and Steel Raw Materials group, aimed at driving cohesion between our research and sales teams while driving business development for the ferro alloys sector. This is a temporary contractor position until one month after the conference, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent position if the candidate is successful.**

By the time of the event, the successful candidate will have established a strong network of industry contacts who are aware of our ferro alloys and steel raw materials content. The candidate will also drive participation and attendance at our event by working with industry groups, as well as our marketing and events teams. The initial focus of this position will be the trade of ferro alloys between South Africa and India.
They will help position our brand as a leader in the ferro alloys business, contributing to global marketing and business development strategies for the content.
The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of the ferro alloys industry and be capable of articulating the value of our products in the market, while also influencing our product roadmap based on customer feedback.
We are looking for a dynamic and engaging individual who thrives on building relationships, gaining expertise, and earning client trust through their industry knowledge.
The successful candidate will also work alongside our industry-leading journalists and price reporters.
Responsibilities:
Develop, coordinate, and execute a business plan to grow our ferro alloys conference.
Create messages that will resonate with potential attendees of our event based on our event value proposition, existing content, and roadmap.
Identify customer challenges and work to solve them using our content on ferro alloys and raw materials.
Provide clear feedback to research and content teams to shape our ferro alloys product roadmap.
Liaise with the marketing team to develop messaging and communication programs focused on ferro alloys.
Use industry conversations to help reporters uncover stories and improve their sourcing for pricing and research development.
Continue the OPIS legacy of providing top-quality customer support.
Maintain strong client and industry relationships, ideally bringing these from prior roles. Continually share and source market intelligence.
Be a public face of McCloskey and OPIS in the ferro alloys space through client engagements, industry presentations, media interviews, and content marketing.
Required Skills:
Strong events planning skills.
10 years of proven experience in the ferro alloys, steel, or steel raw materials industries, including business negotiations and relationship management.
Ability to understand and articulate the value proposition of our ferro alloys products.
Strong grasp of price reporting and research, particularly in ferro alloys and industry workflows.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Ability to confidently engage with clients of all levels, from day-to-day users to C-level contacts.
Confident speaking at public events, including moderating panels at conferences.
Strong qualitative skills (MS Excel and VBA; knowledge of Python, SQL, PowerBI is advantageous).
Exemplary written communication skills.
Solid planning skills with strong attention to detail for business development strategy and retention efforts.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team while also being comfortable operating independently.
Bachelor's degree (quantitative discipline preferred).
