Job Description:

The Market Data Engineering Manager is a leadership role on the Market Data Team. This role leads and manages the development team, responsible for shaping the future technical solutions. The Market Data Team is responsible for providing all market data for The Wall Street Journal, wsj.com, Marketwatch.com, Barrons.com, as well as other News Corp properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of developers

  • Key technical partner to stakeholder groups across the business, including data strategy, business development

  • Coordinate with project and program manager to prioritize requests and bugs

  • Lead/coordinate projects involving Market Data

  • Sets clear expectations for team members; solicits, synthesizes and delivers feedback

  • Communicates timeline, scope and technical concerns to pillar partners.

  • Leads delivery of major initiatives on clear timelines

  • Able to identify areas of strategic technical debt and provide cost/benefit analysis for eliminating this debt and suggested timelines for how to prioritize it

  • Comfortable managing team members with different skill sets and technical areas of focus

  • Prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment

  • Coach team often with eye on their career development and personal growth

Position Qualifications

  • Solid leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team

  • Strong familiarity with technical concepts and tools such as: software architecture platforms, database tools, web and internet applications

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (SCRUM).

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize tasks appropriately

  • Ability to interact with diverse technical and non-technical groups, spanning all organizational levels

  • Detail-orientation, thoroughness and reliability

  • Must be able to clearly relay assignments

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
