Dow Jones Knowledge Product Manager in LONDON, United Kingdom

Job Description:

Dow Jones is building out a new business unit tasked with developing knowledge-enablement products for our customers (both individual consumers and B2B corporates). This nimble and fast-paced team is operating independently, but with access to Dow Jones’ content and data (including that in The Wall Street Journal, the Barron’s Group properties, Dow Jones DNA, Factiva, and Newswires). The business unit is using this extensive content and research capability, alongside artificial intelligence and graph technology, to build whole new customer experiences and analytical tools serving our professional and consumer customers.

Successful applicants will have demonstrated technical aptitude, flexibility in working with cross-functional teams and an eagerness to work in a distributed and autonomous team with direct access to customers.

Dow Jones is seeking a news/knowledge product manager with extremely strong reporting/research and data science/data analysis skills to join a newly-formed London-based team, created as part of a strategic initiative that has identified some high growth opportunities for the organization.

The team’s overarching goal is to develop a new generation of knowledge products, powered by technologies such as graph databases, ML/AI and cloud computing, aimed at extreme information users, both internally (e.g. in our newsrooms and Data Strategy teams) and externally. The team will seek to interconnect and harness all data and content available to Dow Jones and help our customers make sense in near-real time of how news events are impacting their world.

This is a small organisation which will need to demonstrate very quickly its ability to create value and win customers. A can-do attitude, ability to pivot and adapt on the fly as well as willingness to learn and get one’s hands dirty, including in areas beyond the original remit, are all a must.

Core duties will include:

  • Prioritising and leading product development and research efforts to create new data and information, using traditional and computer-assisted reporting. This could include coordinating other researchers’ work during research hackathons

  • Leveraging existing Dow Jones data and content to create new products, data wrangling and data analysis

  • Working closely with engineering and design teams to ensure that new knowledge products meet real customer needs

  • Developing/actively contributing to product roadmaps

Must-haves:

  • A proven track-record of using data, both open source and proprietary, to build news and information products

  • Strong Python skills, including data/statistical analysis and machine learning packages, and ability to work with APIs

  • A solid understanding of Dow Jones and its product suite as well as newsroom workflows

  • Ability to work collaboratively and serve as a project/product leader

  • Deep awareness of how technology is changing professional/consumer information landscape and willingness to embrace the disruption brought about by data

  • Familiarity with graph databases as well as SPARQL is a plus.
