About the Role
The Press/Mail Journeyman/Woman position is designed to prepare those with little or no experience to become a skilled and knowledgeable Press/Mail Journeyman/Woman. On-the- job training is provided by the pressroom foreman, assistant foreman, and journeymen, to learn how to operate and care for the printing press, folder, and reels, and operation of the plate and mailroom areas of the operation. The training can last over a four-year period or less based on the individual’s ability to learn, retain information and demonstrate the skills learned. The schedule or order of training is at the sole discretion of the Company. You shall perform such additional duties as directed by the Foreman. In addition, this job description may be changed or modified at any time per the sole discretion of the Company to meet a change in business objectives. You will be based in LaGrange, Georgia and report to the Foreman.
You Will:
Perform daily duties of spotting plates, and setting out materials for cleaning the pressroom, cleaning up press and press area, and learning how to operate the mailroom and plateroom.
Do your part to minimize white waste, printed waste, and press downtime attributed to paster breaks, running breaks, and other mechanical or operational failures.
Demonstrate team player attributes and work together (with pressroom foremen, journeymen, production, TS, and mailroom) as a team to produce consistent quality reproduction, that meets dispatch schedules, and to maintain an efficient and cost-effective operation.
Learn to lead sheets, line up margins, line up sections, plate up press, quality control, load reels, how to make up posters, operate reels, set ink and water balance. Learning also includes error bundle correction, sorting copies, and proper dispatching of copies.
You will be provided full plateroom operational training:
Throw units in and out, change blankets, learn lubrication points, and set up angle bars.
Operate Wrapping, Strapping, and Conveyors. MCS programming, Harland Simon, labeling equipment, and stackers.
Change and set rollers, switch from one folder to the other, and general maintenance for printing, press, folders, and reels.
Reset ink keys change pins, cutting rubbers, and knife boxes in folder. Learn registration system.
List preparation and manifest sorting tasks.
Set folder up (reset trolley’s, guide rollers, former board, nips, folding rollers, adjust delivery pan and belt’s.), comp units, change slitters, and adjust slitters and slitter rings, throw folder in and out, overload clutch and driveshaft, switch from straight to collect on folder.
Set up ABB and Harland Simon for the production run.
Be fluent in all mailroom and press room functions to take lead role.
You Have:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum 2+ years of printing experience.
