Dow Jones Director, Research and Analysis (Global Plastics Markets) in Houston, Texas

About the Role:

As the Director - Research and Analysis (Global Plastics Markets), you will develop and support Chemical Market Analytics’ Global Engineering Plastics practice in the Americas by providing market research and insights relative to the key engineering plastics markets. You will provide thought leadership relating to supply, demand, price, and economics, as well as competitive dynamics and changing structural elements of the industry. You will be a key external interface for these markets and provide coordination with relevant internal functions. You will also establish and maintain a reputation for engineering plastics market expertise. You will report to the Vice President - Research and Analysis.

We offer short- and long-term market coverage for more than 200 core building-block chemicals with a full suite of advisory services and top-tier events held around the globe. The worldwide chemical industry looks to Chemical Market Analytics to guide decisions and help manage risk across the entire value chain.

You Will:

  • Manage and contribute to primary research and analysis for the global engineering plastics markets

  • Research producer capacities, operating status, production costs, trade flows, new projects, and individual company analysis

  • Cultivate North American and Latin American engineering plastics industry contact relationships across producers, consumers, distributors, traders, and the financial community

  • Provide unique, neutral, and objectively-written Global Engineering Resin Report Advisory Service content which includes monthly reports, focus reports, and associated World Analysis services

  • Develop new and unique approaches to leveraging Chemical Market Analytics data and models for enhanced predictive services

  • Develop and deliver market presentations at Chemical Market Analytics and external events client meetings, and conferences

  • Manage global engineering plastics team goals and dynamics to ensure consistent global market coverage and analysis

  • Provide polyolefin related market expertise for Chemical Market Analytics Consulting projects and Sales client development

  • Provide written commentary for weekly, monthly, and annual market insight publications

  • Interface with other Chemical Market Analytics researchers concerning upstream feedstocks and downstream derivatives

  • Lead base chemical special reports in response to weather, natural disaster, and other force majeure events

  • Identify new business opportunities for sales and consulting follow-up

You Have:

  • At least 10 years’ chemical industry experience which include team leadership and exposure to the commercial engineering plastics markets

  • Understanding of key engineering plastic technologies applicable to producers and processors as well as plastics recycling and sustainability initiatives

  • Established relationships at multiple levels with key engineering plastics buy and sell side market participants, including Executive Management

  • Experience as a public speaker varied audience sizes and have effectively distilled complex information in a compelling and succinct manner

  • Business analysis skills including the use of databases, spreadsheets, and econometric models

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally

  • Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is a plus

  • Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry degree, or economics preferred - MBA or other graduate degree desirable - OR - equivalent work experience

Pay Range: $155,000 - $195,000
