Dow Jones Director of Energy & Feedstocks in HOUSTON, Texas

Job Description:

Chemical Market Analytics, by OPIS, a Dow Jones Company (CMA) is seeking a Director who will be responsible for developing and stewarding new energy market research and analysis. This position will also play a key role in supporting the VP of Energy Markets within CMA.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a reputation for natural gas liquids (NGL) and naphtha market expertise.

  • Lead the development of new market research products focused on feedstocks for the petrochemical industry, such as NGLs and other refined products.

  • Directs primary research and creates analysis in support of new service launches. Research includes upstream production trends, refining landscape evolution, end-use demand modeling, supply/demand balancing, trade flows, pricing, general market dynamics, individual company analysis, and econometric modeling.

  • Builds and maintains industry contact relationships across producers, consumers, traders, and the financial community. Leverages contacts to collect market information for insightful analysis and forecasting, benefiting existing and potential clients.

  • Acts as a liaison between CMA & external research partners.

  • Oversees energy price forecasting process and communicates the forecast key messages both internally and externally.

  • Regularly provides neutral and objectively written content within Market Advisory Service content including weekly and monthly reports, special topic papers and strategic analyses.

  • Develops market presentations. Pursues opportunities to present information in client meetings and at conferences. Actively markets the energy and feedstock services.

  • Contributes to CMA team dynamics to ensure consistent global market coverage and analysis.

  • Collaborates with sales personnel to identify new business opportunities for sales and consulting engagements. Provides energy & feedstock market expertise for consulting projects and client development.

The position reports to the VP of Energy Markets. Characteristics of the ideal candidate include:

  • Fifteen or more years of upstream/downstream industry experience, including market intelligence and/or strategic planning.

  • University degreed. Chemical engineering or chemistry degree preferred, economics will be considered; post-graduate academic work in a technical field (such as PhD or master’s in data science chemical or petroleum engineering) will be considered in lieu of experience.

  • Outgoing personality: Ability and willingness to establish and maintain personal relationships and develop high degree of trust at multiple levels within a client’s organization.

  • Demonstrated “team player”; ability to internalize organizational strategy and objectives and provide peer leadership for collaborative success. Drives for action and results.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to identify and articulate core/essential issues within complex problems and deliver insights and solutions. Deals well with ambiguity and minimal direction.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Second language proficiency a plus.

  • Persuasive speaker at all client levels to small and large audiences.

  • Strong MS Office suite management skills, PowerBI, Spotfire and/or Tableau experience a plus.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel manipulation including VBA scripting, python knowledge a plus.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
