ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, NORTH AMERICA LIGHT OLEFINS – JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Primary job responsibilities
Establishes and maintains a reputation for light olefins and cracker feedstock market expertise.
Completes primary research and analysis for the North American olefins market and supports research for the ethylene and propylene markets. Research includes producer capacities, operating status, production costs, supply/demand balance, trade flows, pricing, general market dynamics, individual company analysis, and econometric modeling.
Builds and maintains North American olefins industry contact relationships across producers, consumers, traders, and the financial community. Leverages contacts to collect market information for regular reporting and insightful analysis and forecasting which benefits existing and potential clients.
Oversees monthly price discovery and cracker feedstock surveys with relevant market participants.
Regularly provides neutral and objectively written content within the North American Light Olefins Market Advisory Service content including weekly and monthly reports, special topic papers and strategic analyses.
Develops and maintains an understanding of supply/demand, econometric price forecast, and trade grid models. Maintains the North America production capacity database, cracker feedstock database, regional supply-demand balances, and price forecasts. Utilizes analytical / statistical approaches to enhance insight and deliver value to clients.
Develops market presentations. Pursues opportunities to present information in client meetings and at conferences. Actively markets the olefins advisory services.
Contributes to global olefins team dynamics to ensure consistent global market coverage and analysis.
Collaborates with sales personnel to identify new business opportunities for sales and consulting engagements. Provides olefins & feedstock market expertise for consulting projects and client development.
The position reports to the North American Light Olefins Service Leader. Characteristics of the ideal candidate include:
Ten or more years of refinery/chemical industry experience, including market intelligence, commercial development and/or manufacturing of olefins. Additional experience within the natural gas liquids sector a plus.
University degreed. Chemical engineering or chemistry degree preferred, economics will be considered; MBA or other graduate degree is desirable.
Outgoing personality: Ability and willingness to establish and maintain personal relationships and develop high degree of trust at multiple levels within a client’s organization
Demonstrated “team player”; ability to internalize organizational strategy and objectives and provide peer leadership for collaborative success. Drives for action and results.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to identify and articulate core/essential issues within complex problems and deliver insights and solutions. Deals well with ambiguity and contradiction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Native English speaker, Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus.
Persuasive speaker at all client levels to small and large audiences
Strong MS Office suite management skills, PowerBI, Spotfire and/or Tableau experience a plus
Advanced knowledge of Excel manipulation including VBA scripting, python knowledge a plus
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
