Job Information

Dow Jones China Finance Reporter, Hong Kong in HONG KONG, Hong Kong

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an energetic and finance-savvy reporter to cover the world of China’s borrowers and lenders, with a special focus on real estate and the embattled fintech sector.

This opening comes at an extraordinarily busy time on the China finance beat. You will play a leading role in our coverage of the country’s multitrillion-dollar property sector crisis, as developers led by Evergrande stumble under heavy debt loads. You will also help cover the clash between regulators and financial technology companies like Ant.

The job is designed for a digger who can independently come up with stories about China's financial institutions, shadow banking industry and biggest borrowers, while also covering the intersection of tech and finance in China. You would need to show the reporting ability to uncover news in a competitive arena and the news judgment to focus on the developments most important to China's financial system and markets.

Fluency in finance and Mandarin are strong advantages for your candidacy, as is a demonstrated ability to relate complex developments in easily comprehensible prose.

You should submit a cover letter describing how you would approach this job, a detailed resume, and five clips with explanations about what the stories show about your capabilities. This job reports to the Journal’s Asia Finance Editor.
