Dow Jones Technical Analyst, Automation & Reporting in BARCELONA, Spain

Job Description:

The Role:

Dow Jones is looking for a Technical Analyst to be part of the global Automation & Reporting team. The team uses SQL, Python, JavaScript and more to build solutions and reporting capabilities to help our partners manage and analyze high volumes of articles and data points across the Dow Jones products.

As a Technical Analyst within the team you will partner with multiple business teams to report on the databases they own and design innovative solutions to automate their business processes. You will work on multiple deliverables in parallel, be comfortable eliciting reporting requirements and translating these into solutions, prioritizing and communicating progress and blockers in an effective manner. You will report to the Director, Automation & Reporting.

You Will:

  • Design, develop and maintain optimized solutions that meet reporting or process improvement needs.

  • Manage a portfolio of solutions, work with multiple stakeholders and communicate progress and blockers with the project team and sponsors.

  • Design and own reporting processes that are business centric and will improve the operational efficiency.

  • Identify high impact business problems and elicit requirements for solution development.

  • Write clean and readable code and optimized SQL queries.

  • Develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) jobs, visualization dashboards and tools that support processes.

  • Adopt existing best practices or contribute to improving them, including solution design, development, validation and documentation practices.

  • Work on ad hoc and urgent requests

Essential Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related disciplines, or equivalent combination of training and 3+ years of experience in SQL and Python with applications for data analysis and data processing.

  • Excellent communication skills, being able to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Self starter able to work independently, coordinate with multiple partners and complete projects start to finish

  • Detail oriented with focus on assuring quality, consistency and accuracy in data and processes

  • Experience in working with version control systems like Git.

  • Experience in delivery through agile practices

  • An openness to different views and opinions and an appreciation for team diversity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ETL development.

  • Experience working with large datasets in a fast-paced and fluid environment with the ability to understand and solve complex non-routine problems.

  • Experience in working with Google APIs.

  • Experience in using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT).

  • Proficiency in data visualization and dashboard building.

  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP) including S3, Athena, Glue.

  • Knowledge in Data Science and predictive modeling.

  • Knowledge of other programming languages (JavaScript).
