Dow Jones Senior People Business Partner, Barcelona in BARCELONA, Spain

Dow Jones has announced that we’re growing our office in Barcelona! To support this exciting period of growth we’re looking for a Senior People Business Partner that is smart, has high emotional intelligence, and possesses an appreciable sense of humour.

You will have a track record of building relationships with leaders, understanding the business and influencing to drive positive change throughout the organization. Working closely with our GM of EMEA based in Barcelona you are supporting the Data & AI team and helping to grow the Engineering team managed out of NYC. You will be capable of challenging convention, building meaningful relationships and thinking critically to achieve this.

You will manage a People Business Partner in Barcelona and are a role model to junior members of the People team. The Senior PBP lives our values of Collaboration, Trust, Impact and Excellence through their work, delivering a people-first approach to our client groups and to optimize our own ways of working. You will report into the VP, People (EMEA/APAC) based in London.

What we’re looking for:

  • You can align around clear goals and objectives, which helps connect us to the goals of the business and be a strategic partner to our stakeholders.

  • You will develop an intimate understanding of the businesses you support and be a local partner to leaders in the EMEA region on strategic initiatives including: employee engagement, retention, performance planning, employee relations matters, career development, employee metrics, succession planning and organizational transformation. You are resourceful, bringing the right people together to build new tools, optimize the way we work and drive change.

  • You have worked in global organizations and can support leaders who report into different countries and different timezones. You’re able to help bridge cultural differences and advocate for employees in a global matrixed environment.

  • The Senior PBP will be an advocate of diversity, equity and inclusion within the organization, personally and programmatically. You will know how to talk about this in relation to all areas of the employee life cycle, our internal programs and how we can positively influence change in each of the teams you support.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in and manage ambiguity – dealing with issues that do not always have a process or a system in place

  • You are comfortable communicating openly and transparently, assuming good intent when working with our business, our team and our partners. With courage, you can speak up and be honest, even when it’s hard.

  • You will stay connected with all Global PBPs for your client groups, ensuring all are kept aware of any and all client group activities or developments in the EMEA region.

  • You take initiative and are unafraid to tackle any challenge, yet know when to escalate if needed. You learn from any mistakes and strive to achieve great things.

  • You deliver on what you promise your clients and your colleagues – thoughtfully and reliably. Business leaders know they can rely on you to achieve their goals and they experience excellent partnership from you. You are great at building strong relationships.

  • You will work closely with the Labor Relations & Employee Relations Manager in Barcelona to work alongside the Workers Council. And you will inform and participate in the creation of human resource policies, practices and systems which help attract, retain and mobilize excellent talent, support business priorities and collective bargaining agreements, and promote competitive advantage.

You Have:

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible human resources experience

  • Experience working with highly technical employee groups, such as software engineers or data analytical teams, would be a benefit.

  • A proven track record of contributing to the creation and/or expansion of best practices

  • Ability to position self as credible (garners respect, acts with integrity, keeps commitments); proactive (has a point of view, challenges assumptions, takes initiative); and a trusted thought partner (builds relationships, delivers results)

  • Ability to balance business partnering skills with employee advocacy

  • Experience with employee relations processes, including workplace investigations and the performance management process

  • Experience and knowledge of current country-specific employment/labor laws in the EMEA region, preferably working with a global HR team

  • Effective collaboration, coaching and counseling skills

  • ​​Ability to use data and analytics to develop recommendations and actions

  • Ability to to work under pressure and be a proactive team player

  • Ability to manage and resolve sensitive employee issues
