About the Role

As an on-site top line manager of a Dow Jones production facility in White Oak, Maryland, you will report to the Director of Production. The role includes management of plant staff, equipment, materials and facility to meet advertiser and reader expectations in a cost-effective manner. You will work with and through direct reports and staff to operate focusing on best performance practices, standardized continuous improvement processes/ procedures, problem diagnosis and timely solutions, preventative maintenance, staff schedules, staff development, labor administration, consumable management and interdepartmental communications that aims to provide 100% equipment availability and minimize production disruptions affecting Dow Jones’ and contract print publications. You will manage plant facilities in a manner that protects corporate assets, complies with internal and external audit standards, regulatory, environmental and safety requirements, corporate safety policy and meets the business-space needs of other departments.

You Will:

  • Oversee all daily printing and support operations with single point accountability for performing the overall operation under the direction of the Director of Production.

  • Drive accomplishment of business unit financial and operating objectives by ensuring that the printing facility employs effective process improvement efforts, demonstrates leadership, develops staff skills and competencies, creates spending plans and maintains cost-effective materials consumption.

  • Continuously improve the Production Quality Score, integrating key performance measures such as reproduction quality, content freshness and productivity and achieve minimal consumable waste factors.

  • Develop, evaluate, approve and submit to Print Group management, required capital projects, operating improvements, compensation planning and staffing modifications. Guide plant staff and plant management team in the preparation and implementation of capital projects to enhance plant operations and meet customer satisfaction expectations.

  • Develop and maintain an effective management team through recruiting, training, performance management implementation and clearly defined expectations. Insure performance standards are met and support staff development by providing skill and knowledge enhancement through workshops and active assignments. Support the development of a diverse work environment.

  • Maintain the physical plant facility in a cost effective manner that meets both manufacturing and business office environment needs. Insure compliance with internal local, state, and federal laws and company policy regarding equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, security, safety and regulatory and environmental requirements.

  • Maintain a comprehensive equipment maintenance program using the combined resources of the technology service managers and staff at a level that can sustain equipment at sufficient levels to meet production manufacturing target levels and preserves the value of capital equipment.

  • Communicate with employees while emphasizing the goals and objectives of the department.

  • Where applicable, in collaboration with the national management, employee relations and the legal department, provide input for, participate in, implement and administer labor agreements that meet overall department objectives.

  • Implement our performance management program and ensure that performance plans for all production employees, including direct reports, are conducted following the performance plan. Administer the local compensation plan.

  • Insure compliance with internal local, state, and federal laws and company policy regarding equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, security, safety and regulatory and environmental requirements.

  • Assist with the preparation and management of the plant’s operating and capital budgets focusing on opportunities to make the operation more efficient, cost-effective and productive, while meeting customer quality expectations and developing the management team.

  • Oversee foremen and plant TS manager in coordinating the timely and cost-effective production of Dow Jones’ print publications on a daily basis.

You Have:

  • College degree or equivalent working experience. 7+ years of experience in printing or management/supervision of light manufacturing operations preferred.

  • Good organizational, writing, verbal communication and negotiating skills.

  • Strong background in computer applications and math.

  • Team oriented. Customer and bottom line driven, with strong record of cost-efficient, timely results.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in business PC applications (Excel/Google spreadsheets, Word).
