Dow Jones Engineering team is looking for a Technical Writer & Evangelist whose passion is helping developers be successful. We consider documentation an integrated product as critical to success as the APIs it explains. The Technical Writer will help set our documentation strategy and partners with Engineering team to make documentation an interactive experience that ensures we're meeting the needs of successfully educating, informing, and guiding other developers. As an Evangelist you will drive engagement within engineering team through organising events & hackathons, promoting engineering excellence and adoption of engineering standards
Own the development of technical core content roadmap for all engineering within Dow Jones
Assist in the creation and update of clear, concise, and human documentation for Dow Jones’ , News Corp and an external developer audience.
Democratize the documentation process across the Developer team, serving as an editor for contributing engineers.
Champion the Engineering excellence initiative across various locations and teams by organising events, hackathons, presentations and knowledge sharing sessions.
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Mass Communications, Science or Engineering.
Comfortable working in an unstructured writing environment with evolving processes and homegrown systems.
Comfortable handling multiple deadlines and self prioritization of ad hoc requests.
Experience with Project management activities and planning
Experience working directly with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to help document (and define) new developer products and features.
Experience writing all common forms of developer documentation (API reference, conceptual guides, and tutorials).
Experience programming with at least one of: Go, Java, Ruby — and the desire to gain experience with more.
Experience writing in Markdown and HTML.
Comfortable navigating and reading source code in a variety of languages.
Comfortable working with the Linux command line in a Macintosh environment.
Familiarity with version control systems.
