Reporting to the GM, Industry, you will devise and execute the strategy of delivering a new suite of business information services. You will research and create a roadmap for new industry verticals that will drive vigorous growth of the WSJ Professional Membership division.

Each of our verticals represents a growing portfolio of services for practitioners, professionals and executives. The head of R&D will work with the product director, editorial director and technology director to create a coordinated suite of new products in a common platform for members, ensuring that high levels of use and engagement are achieved, as well as cross-pollination and the opportunity to upsell members where relevant.

  • Use customer research and insight to identify opportunity for product creation or enhancement

You will have extensive experience working in a data-led or analysis-led research capacity, most likely in industry directly, in financial services or for a research house. Your creative and analytical mind will have been widely in demand by your constituents: clients who buy information services, internal stakeholders who rely on your output to inform their decisions, or business and thought leaders who depend on it for professional advantage, foresight and game-changing outcomes.

You have an impressive academic or industry background, likely an advanced degree or a professional / research qualification. You communicate ideas with passion and sincerity. You are comfortable at a high intellectual level and in a challenging but intellectually curious environment. It makes sense to you that simplicity, adaptability and utility are prized highly by the customer, and seek that outcome at every opportunity. Scalable and repeatable is a mantra you subscribe to, but you also recognise that cookie cutters need not apply.

You demonstrate analytical skill, ease with data technologies and a passion for what’s next. You of course have a strong written and spoken capacity.
