Job Information

Dow Jones Senior Correspondent, Middle East in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an enterprising reporter to cover the Middle East. This is an essential role in our global geopolitical coverage. Our goal is to deliver authoritative, groundbreaking coverage of the rivalries and alliances driving conflicts in and among places such as Lebanon, Israel and the occupied territories, Iran, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Strong writing is essential to the job.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience covering foreign policy, security and politics in the Middle East, as well as skills for operating in difficult places. Experience and language ability in a country such as Iran or Israel, for instance, are a necessity. You will need to be able to source deeply among the region’s diplomats, politicians and policy makers. Knowledge of the global security landscape is also critical.

You should have a proven ability to generate scoops and original angles off the news – high-metabolism, high-quality coverage delivered with expertise and refinement. You also must be a team player, able to work productively with colleagues in the Middle East and around the world to cover this important story.

The position will be based in Dubai or Tel Aviv.

You will:

  • Break agenda-setting news on your beat.

  • Conceptualize and deliver deeply reported enterprise stories.

  • Work with colleagues around the world in a 24 hour a day global newsroom.

You have:

  • At least 10 years of reporting experience dominating a highly competitive beat.

  • Deadline skills to report and write clearly under pressure.

  • Proven ability to develop sources, frame and execute story ideas, and write with authority.

  • A track record of tackling ambitious projects, finding original approaches to coverage and working with visuals to find creative storytelling techniques.

  • A deep understanding of the ins and outs of U.S. geopolitics and regional security in the Middle East.

  • Skilled in a relevant language such as Farsi, Hebrew or Arabic as well as English.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing how you would do the job, and five examples of your best work.
