Dow Jones Machinist in BOWLING GREEN, Ohio

Job Description:


Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair on equipment and systems used for the daily production of Dow Jones print publications to meet or exceed customer expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness and productivity. Use parts and materials cost-effectively, identify and implement best performance and continuous improvement practices, processes and procedures. Assist with plant Environmental/Safety compliance efforts.


  • Perform electro/mechanical maintenance and repair tasks effectively and efficiently to improve equipment operational reliability and reproduction quality.

  • Prioritize work assignments as necessary to address immediate production needs.

  • Provide capable and responsive technical support to press and mail supervisors and their staff to help them achieve plant Production Quality System goals and business objectives.

  • Perform required product quality inspections. Identify and recommend process improvement suggestions.

  • Keep accurate, concise and timely maintenance records. Maintain parts and supplies inventory. Use DataStream and other PC based applications as required.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, colleagues and coworkers.

  • Follow Company Office Rules, policies, safe work practices and procedures that insure compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Perform E&S compliance-related tasks as requested.

  • Assist with efforts to implement Safety Team directives designed to minimize workplace accidents and enhance employee well-being.

  • For this position there will be some evening shift work as well as work on holidays.


  • Strong work ethic with a focus on cost-efficient, effective and timely results.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

  • Good hydraulic systems understanding and troubleshooting.

  • Skills including welding, brazing, oxy-acetylene cutting, operating lathes, mills and other hand/power tools, using precise measuring tools, reading blueprints and operating lift trucks.

  • Working knowledge of PLC logic and other electronic controls is helpful.

  • The ability to diagnose problems quickly and implement remedies that keep production operations functioning to avoid or minimize equipment downtime.

  • Demonstrate initiative and decision-making acumen.

  • Cooperate with coworkers and utilize teamwork as needed to meet business objectives.

  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times.

  • Able to work alone or as part of a team to complete assignments and special projects.

  • Good verbal and written communications skills. Organizational and follow-up skills a plus.

  • Familiarity with computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Position requires standing, lifting, bending and physical exertion throughout shift.
